My Top 7 Favourited All Day Same Day Playlist

Later this month [21st], l have a musical post publishing to the blog entitled ‘A Life Filled With Turmoil!‘ which looks at one of my many Top 10 Favourited Album Lists after a conversation l had with Jen regarding her post Smooth, Clean Taste with a Dash of Confusion of last year.

In recent months only have l rediscovered my love for music again and listened to it again. It is still not back to the way it used to be when Scrappy and l shared the same office space, but it’s slowly returning, and that is way better than not listening to music at all unless creating an entertainment post like this one.

I was walking around town the other day, a regular enough occurrence. Still, l was also listening to music on my CD player and thinking of all the pieces of music and songs and tracks and so on l have heard over the years, which would l consider the Top 7 that l could listen to over and over if l had to for one day?

Below are my choices … but more importantly, if you were asked to select ONLY 7 pieces of music/songs/tracks to listen to for one day back to back, what would your list comprise?

Carl Orff – O Fortuna ~ Carmina Burana
The first time l heard this piece was in 1981 when l watched the film Excalibur – starring Helen Mirren, Nigel Terry, Liam Neeson and a host of other wonderful actors. it blew me away, although lused to listen to classical as a teenager l had never come across this particular piece.

I could listen to this all day every day.
Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody 1965
I used to listen to this when l was around 15 years of age when living at home. My parents used to always quiz why l would play this track over and over – l couldn’t explain it, it was as it was.

The next time l heard it was in 1994 when l was watching a Drama series called Soldier Soldier which ran for 7 seasons. It was sung for the episode Band of Gold by Robson Green and Jerome Flynn who also brought ot out as a single.

I also heard it during the film Ghost 1990 with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore when l watched the film in 1997 which apparently did wonders for the pottery industry!
Solomon Burke ~ Cry To Me
I love this song by Solomon Burke and had only heard it when watching the film Dirty Dancing 1987 starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. I am a huge fan of this film anyway, but this song always gets to me.
Samuel Barber – Adagio for Strings
I first heard this as the backdrop score to the film Platoon 1986 starring William Dafoe, Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger among many others and still consider it to be a beautiful but haunting piece, that has stayed with me over the years.
Inspector Morse Theme
I was a huge fan of the Inspector Morse series 1987 – 2000 starring John Thaw and Kevin Whatley and adored the theme that ran with it.

Barrington Pheloung – Australian Composer 1954 – 2019
Madama Butterfly
I first heard the theme from Madam Butterfly in the background over dinner when l was 13 and visiting friends of my parents.

My father hated anything classical which may explain why he was always so angry with me – l used to play a lot of classical when home.

I love the full opera, but this particular song always makes me feel emotional.
Honor Him – Hans Zimmer – Gladiator
I loved the film Gladiator 2000 and the entire score, but this one piece stuck firmly in my mind and l often catch myself humming it when writing.

So there we go. If l had to listen to 7 tracks for a full day back to back, the tracks above would make it easy. But that’s just me – how about you? 7 Tracks/scores/pieces only – what could you listen to for one whole day and not tire or bore from it?

  1. I don’t think I’ve listened to any of these. And if if I had to come up with a list of my own…… it would be just me songs I am listening to now. I cannot recall this like that.

      1. I do listen to them every day, but add new ones that Spotify suggests. There are some oldies that whenever I listen to, give me a nice nostalgic feel but I won’t say that they were my all time favorites.

  2. Hello, Rory, how you doing?
I wrote something like this years ago inspired by the Desert Island Disc thing. I said it’s impossible to choose just 8 songs from all the ones I love to have as a castaway on an island – and you have reduced it to 7. Lol. It’s as easy as 8.

This Charming Man – The Smiths
Baby, I Need Your Lovin’ – The Four Tops
Nine Feet Underground – Caravan (reformed and live version)
Seven Days Of Falling – Esbjörn Svensson Trio
    So What? – Miles Davis
Joyful Spirits of the Universe – Matthew Halsall
    August 10 – Khruangbin

    1. Hey Ian 🙂

I agree with you selecting 8 songs would be hard and 7 was even harder, l racked my brains and thought mm, so 7 choices for one day out of hundreds what would they really be .

Yours is a cracking line up, l quickly listened to parts of the ones l didn’t know whilst reading the comments here tonight.

  3. That’s a good question Rory. I’ve heard of and listened to most of your 7. I think mine would be around times in my life that stay with me. Rocket man. Elton John. Lionel Ritchies’ Hello. Elvis If I can Dream. Etta May At Last. Take on Me A-Ha. Sweet Child o Mine Guns n Roses and Who Wants To Live Forever Queen.

    1. Hey John 🙂

      Rocket man. Elton John.
      Lionel Ritchies’ Hello.
      Elvis If I can Dream.
      Etta May At Last.
      Take on Me A-Ha.
Sweet Child o Mine Guns n Roses
Who Wants To Live Forever Queen.

      That’s a cracking 7 song line up 🙂

  4. Classical is beautiful – I have to be in the mood … I like a variety though (except country lol… I do not like country music 😄 only very few) people try to get me to like it – but I don’t lol

With classical – it makes connections in your brain – no wonder you are a thinker – I played classical music for my kids when they were newborns – because of that and they are smart ❤️

My oldest loves classical … Beethoven, Bach etc… he’s a music major. He has an ear and loves instruments – he can hear all of them.

Classical is very beautiful – I do also love unchained melody – classic and beautiful song!!

Seems like your music choices stem from shows or things that touched you or you loved… so I can see that

There are songs that will play and take me back to something too… you lose yourself in the songs and memories ❤️

Whatever soothes your savage beast lol 🙌

  5. I only recognize a few of your choices. I often will listen to a Cd that was burnt for me over and over again. It is more enjoyable to me than just one artist. ( unless it is a CD of Beatles music or Beach Boys)

  6. Nice List! I’ll have see if I can get my brain to engage to come up with a well thought out list.
Off the top of my head, two albums come to mind… Tales From Topographic Oceans by Yes, and Led Zeppelin IV.
    That’s more than 7 songs though😂

  7. How come I can’t reply to some of your posts?

When I hit comment – it shows me the comment section but does not give me area – only some do lol

    1. Morning Trisha 🙂

I made many changes to the settings on my blog back in 2021. One of them was to reduce the duration my comments were open for.

They are only open for three days and then they close down. Now that l only publish once every three days there is always a continuous flow to be had ‘conversationally speaking’ but not always on the same post 🙂

It was done to prevent spam comments by autobots.

      1. Hahaha good morning – ☀️

        Lol killin me smalls

Aren’t bad ones just kept away from you? I never see them – I think I poked around once and found them then nah – I like them hidden- you don’t have to approve and doesn’t show up and I think they go right into a spam folder or something – for protection ??

        Am I wrong? 😳

I don’t see bad stuff but I also don’t go looking for it lol

        1. Well, there is that. The stuff is always there even if not visible, it’s just hidden in different folders in your dashboard and eventually needs to be sorted out. So, l opted to make the necessary changes to avoid a massive clear out.

Years ago, l was getting nearly 1000 spam comments a day hit my spam folder and WP back then were only clearing out 30 a month for an OCD freak like me that was way too much clutter. I am good on most things, but admin stuff cluttering is a huge no 😊

Gradually over the years since blogging, l have simply bespoke tailored how l want my personal blog to be seen and received by my friends.

I have a very small circle of friends [like you] that l talk with on a day-to-day, week by week basis and l no longer have high numbers. It reflects my real life; l don’t have lots of friends l have a very small circle. But all those included are people l thoroughly enjoying speaking with on a genuine basis.

The falseness and fakery of people was starting to cause me problems here in WordPress [think autism] so l took extreme action and cut out people who never conversed with me or l them and simply made my blog a very personal affair. I went from 2800 followers to 45 in one sitting, but the 45 were genuine people that talked with me.

Now l have people that l talk with every week and it is way less overwhelming, but it also means that l don’t have my conversations open for longer than three days. I agree it might prove difficult to comment, but there is always a current post where comments can be slotted in.

        2. I don’t even bother with that folder or any other usually – I just come to read and write lol ❤️

Are we supposed to be cleaning that? What if I don’t? Does do anything bad?

Is that just a personal choice or is something we supposed to be doing? Lol 🤷‍♀️

Yes – I do also have a tight small circle of people – but I have a couple circles lol maybe 3 but are 3 really small ones except the work one – I have many there… and then here on WordPress … but I am very careful with who does come close to me … and also like you … I do genuinely love being around them and having them in my life ❤️ very blessed

Yeah well some just observe or are quiet – I don’t mind that

Well also life makes you see who you click with – who you fit… and then you have people 🙌

But yes – I know what you say… peaceful not overly overwhelming. I do not open any other social media for that reason.

Lol yes … because I be reading one of your posts and then I wanna say something and was no comment box thing lol … I shut WordPress down several times because I thought the app was being difficult lol

          You are so funny

I get why you do, I can see how would cut down on spam and clutter

It was just funny because I didn’t know why I could not comment lol

        3. Hey Trisha, worry not – it’s not something you have to do, it is a very personal tidy up and individual to each person.

… and as they say Bada Bing, Bada Bong now you know why 🙂

  8. Hi, Rory! Dirty Dancing is my all time favorite movie. With that said
I’ve Had the Time of My Life – Bill Medley/Jennifer Warnes
    Black Magic Woman – Santana
    Rocket Man – Elton John
    Hey Jude – The Beatles
Bobbie Gentry – Ode to Billy Joe
The Ramsey Lewis Trio – The “In” Crowd
    Booker T. And The MG’s – Green Onions (1962)

And as I look out my window – Jan. 16 – 10:44 am, it is snowing! 🤗
