My Top 2021 Entertainments

This post results from a snippet of a conversation l overheard the other morning whilst out walking between two women on the Ramparts who were walking in the opposite direction to me. As we passed, l heard this …

“I have had a boring as hell year. Nothing has entertained me!”
“So you have not found anything entertainment-wise this year? No books, magazines, TV shows, films, going out nothing at all?”
“Oh well, if you put it like that, then ….”

I heard no more than the fifteen or so seconds of passing conversation. Still, it inspired me to create this post – My “Top 15 2021 Entertainments That I Am Grateful For” List!

I gave this conversation a lot of further deep thought as l finished off my walk that morning and pondered on what might have followed the “Oh well, if you put it like that, then ….” line from the woman who said she had experienced a so-called boring and uneventful entertaining year? What could “Oh well, if you put it like that, then ….” Have meant? What was her Then symbolic too?

One could imagine till the cows came home wearing pink bow ties, l guess … but it did make me wonder considering the diverse option range she had been offered. It made me think about myself. Have l had an entertaining year? Was 2021 better than 2020? Yes, l have to be honest and say it was and has been for many reasons.

Was it ‘exciting, though?’ No, it wasn’t exciting. Was it eventful then? Yes, it has been l think eventful. Finally, did l manage to source suitable entertainment this year to keep me occupied, which l am grateful for? Yes, most assuredly. Was l at all bored this year? No, not at all, and if l was, they were very short-lived moments.

There have been many entertainments and moments l have been grateful for this year. Below are some of my top significant ones!

49″ Super Ultrawide Curved Monitor

At the start of this year, I purchased it to improve overall computer performance and replace my two pre-existing 24″ curved monitors that were side by side. A significant bit of kit has allowed me to work and game more efficiently.
Reebok One GT40S Treadmill

This was an excellent purchase for me as well as the household. It was an investment bit of exercise kit for the house and came around earlier this year when my first ‘cheaper’ model broke after 10 weeks of use. This combined with my daily walking has really helped this year keep my sanity in check.
The Good Doctor – Medical Drama – Amazon Prime

The Good Doctor is an American medical drama television series based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name.
Fabulous series l have been watching throughout the year.
Friendships

This year l have developed and maintained good quality friendships both in real life – like with Rose and Baz just around the corner and online with my close friends across the pond and strengthened existing friendships with virtual friends and my best mate Suzanne.
Fallout 4 – Video Game

Fallout 4 is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fourth main game in the Fallout series and was released worldwide on November 10, 2015, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
I started playing this game in 2015 and still play it today, and it has provided me with a great deal of stress relief.
World of Warcraft – Online Game

World of Warcraftis a massively multiplayer online role-playing game released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment.
I have been an active, dedicated, and loyal player of WoW since it first launched in 2004. For 17 years, it has awarded me massive entertainment, but especially during 2020 and 2021.
Gogglebox – Entertainment

Gogglebox is a British reality television series created by Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, and Tania Alexander and broadcast on Channel 4. The series documents families and groups of friends around the United Kingdom filmed for their observations and reactions to the previous week’s television from their own homes.
Suzanne introduced me to this series a few months ago. A series l had never watched, but l thought was rubbish until l found myself laughing throughout one episode and have been a fan ever since. It’s great for popping on after a lousy day or when you just need some humour! I have, since the introduction, watched many of the previous series. It’s not everyone’s taste, but l like it.
A Guy Called Bloke Blog – Changes and Transformations

My blog has been a saviour for my sanity, not perhaps in the usual ways that maybe some might think either, but more with regards to the changes and refits and decisions to alter the style l deliver to my readership l have made this year. Combined also with the final design and personality my blog now displays. Plus, it was excellent to find great joy in writing again
Create & Go Marketing Course

This course has really opened my eyes to blogging and business combined. I am still taking it and studying, but it’s a great course filled with quality training modules that l have found seriously helpful.
Just F*cking Do it – Noor Hibbert

I bought this last year and only really started to read it properly this year. I have read many non-fiction books this year like JFDI, and all have awarded something significant. Still, Noor’s book really was the trigger for many of my epiphany moments this year. It was this book that really started the ball rolling.
My Positive Belief In Me as A Person

Long before l decided to sit down with Suzanne to help motivate her and get her back on her feet, and taking The Thrive Programme with her, l had already decided to stop my procrastination, self-doubts and negative thinking. I opted to drop many long terms and held external beliefs and believe in the power of me only. My motivation, confidence and positive belief system. I no longer believe in anything other than my own ability to control my life. It has allowed me to continually move forwards this year with no regrets.
Since working on this style very early this year and adopting positive practices, l have felt really good about myself and know l can achieve anything that l wish to.
The Willow Garden

The courtyard garden has provided me with continuous entertainment and chill down relaxation time. It is an ongoing project that makes me want to keep at it and constantly improve it.
Netflix

Netflix [and Prime to a degree] has been a fantastic service at my disposal, especially given the unreliable quality of British Television over the last few years. The ability to switch off to the madness of the world and watch great films and series and documentaries alike has been a tremendous saving grace and talking of which!
Saving Grace – Comedy/Crime Film – 2000

Saving Grace is a 2000 British comedy film, directed by Nigel Cole, starring Brenda Blethyn and Craig Ferguson. The screenplay was written by Ferguson and Mark Crowdy. Set in Cornwall, the film tells the story of a middle-aged widow whose irresponsible husband left her in an enormous debt, forcing her to grow cannabis in her greenhouse along with her gardener Matthew to avoid losing her house.

I have watched this film several times over the last five years since Suzanne first introduced me to it! A hilarious, funny movie! Guaranteed to live your spirits high!
The Business of Worm Farming and Composting

Way back in 2016, when l first examined a new hobby l had discovered as in Backyard Composting’ which enabled me to really work on true passions of mine with regards the environment, l never had once thought that five years later l would be literally on the ‘eve’ so to speak of launching a new business indirectly connected to that first exploration into Brown Gold!
Vermiculture – the Truest Black Gold – achieved by worm farming!
I never saw that, and yet – this marks the beginning of a new chapter for me!

So after thinking back on that conversation snippet l overheard between two other walkers, the above is the list l combined that contains some of the best moments for me in 2021 that have provided me with fantastic entertainment that l am truly grateful for!

But of course, these are mine – what would yours look like? It can be films, TV Series, books, days out, music and it can be anything that awarded you the best entertainment this year – let me know below.

  1. Great list Rory. Mine are a bit scattered sort of moments. I have written a post that will be published today or tomorrow. My 2021. Hope you’ll take a look

  2. Basically books! I’ve read over 100 this year and will end up around 115. I’ve also played games online and in-person. I was playing a bunch of phone games but deleted them in October (eyestrain). I’ve seen some good movies and enjoyed the first season of Only Murders in the Building. And of course blogging…

    1. Hey Paula, l had not heard of OMITB until you made mention to it. Martin and Short two of my favourite funny guys – what’s it like?

Wow 100 books and soon to be 115 very impressive.

What were your top 3 movies? Two of my favourites to date have been Red Notice and Survivor.

      1. OMITB is a comedy-drama built around three main chars in an apartment building. In S1 they try to solve a murder in their bumbling way. I loved it!

I also enjoyed Red Notice. There was an Alfred Hitchcock docu-ish show on Prime starring Anthony Hopkins I liked a lot. And I recommend A Song of Lunch (also on Prime) starring Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson. It’s a poem/movie…

        1. Ooh, l’ll check all out. I am up to my eyeballs in TV series from all over the place at present, but l do like to have something tucked away in rediness 🙂

  3. Hey Rory !! … 2021 has been a very good year for you entertainment-wise… it wasn’t for me because I’ve been very busy with my job so I did a lot of sleeping when I was off, just blogging and resting and working out and a lot of sleeping !! …

  4. I read that they get paid £1500 a month for appearing on Gogglebox. I don’t know if that’s per person or per household a but nice little earner for them either way. They also get a choice of snack delivered which is what you see on their table. The best thing about it is I realise I haven’t missed anything worthwhile on telly.

I think that woman confused boredom with disappointment. I’m often disappointed but hardly ever bored. 😆

    1. Indeed, it’s a nice little earner either way. Mm, l didn’t know that about the snacks, l did wonder why EVERYONE was always eating.

As said, it’s not to everyone’s taste.

  5. Ahh you’re a fan of Googlebox? I like the two in the caravan, they make me laugh so much. 2021 for me has been unexpectedly entertaining, with WandaVision and Loki on Disney+, then attending our first ever comic con and meeting the man of my dreams… I’ll stop there otherwise I’ll go on for hours 🙂

    1. Hey Ami – ah yes Jenny and Lee make me laugh so much!

It’s good that you have had a good year Ami – life’s just too short to not find something good 🙂

      Here, you’ll enjoy this!!

  6. No books or movies or TV programs… I’m very easily entertained. Sven, Zeus, Ben and the cats provide daily entertainment. The sky, the birds, the bugs… Nature entertains me.
I spent a good chunk of time just a couple days ago watching a “river of clouds” flow by.

The only Big thing I can think of is the “Hella Mega” concert in the summer. Interrupters/Weezer/Fall Out Boy/Green Day
It was a mixed entertainment/ discomfort experience though.

My friends have been great and my Zen has stayed intact. Very Very thankful for Friends & Zen.

I was gifted a set of tarot cards and I pull three every morning. It’s been interesting and entertaining.

Life is entertaining. Nothing to *really* complain about except the wonky weather 🤷🏼‍♀️ sure there are irritants, but there are more giggles😉

    💌💌

  7. It is so wonderful to know you have developed such a good, healthy sense of self respect and the ability to enjoy and take pride in your many wonderful talents and abilities. You have come far since you began your first WordPress Blog, Rory! I am so proud of you! 🤗💞

  8. My hubby and cat are my main sources of entertainment – never a dull moment. Then there is my blog, my WordPress friends, and other social media. I also play games at POGO Games. I watch very little TV but we both enjoy YouTube and old rock and roll music. And then there’s life which is entertaining in itself. Make it a great day, Rory!

    1. Hey Eugenia, many thanks for stopping by this Monday to entertain – thank you too – have yourself a lovely day and week.

Hubby and cat entertainment – that’ll be a duo then eh 🙂
