Are you a leftie or a rightie?

24 Hour Blog Question Directory

Of course, it might be perfectly natural for the reader to think ‘Oh hallo, what’s he asking of us with this type of question and a frog sitting on a toilet?’ Right?

Well, if you were thinking …. which side of the toilet should the toilet paper be on then you were bang on with your thoughts … however, if you were thinking anything else … all l can say is for goodness sake, seriously??

Suze is still in the process of ‘moving in’, predominately she has moved in, however there is still a lot of work to be done with her old house, but in the main she is living here full time and so too are some of her toiletry behaviours

The upstairs toilet is the main bathroom to the house, but the savvy amongst you might recall that this house actually has two toilets – upstairs and downstairs .. it’s all a bit slapdash and higgledy-piggledy for my liking. Downstairs is the ideal shower, but the toilet area was an afterthought and is only really great for a ‘quick toilet’ visit as it doesn’t have enough room to swing a cat – due to minimal arm width, we’ll leave it there.

BUT, it does have a fixed toilet roll holder on the left hand side affixed to the wall.

The upstairs bathroom has the worst shower but the best toilet – the latter is best for those longer visits … as said the toilet/bathroom areas here are very awkward – they should have made one shower room only and made the upstairs purely a toilet or alternatively the best bathroom – but hey ho, it is what it is.

However, upstairs doesn’t have a fixed toilet roll holder , but it has a small shelf on the left hand side to the sitter [l did say sitter – but you know l could have said ‘sitter on the …’ but l didn’t!] Before Suze l used to have the toilet roll on the small shelf to the left side of me, which is my favoured toilet roll position.

But, Suze has now moved into the bathroom a toilet roll stand’ and positioned it on the right side, because whereas l am a preferred ‘leftie’, she is a much favoured ‘rightie’. Neither of us are overly keen on being middlers either [as in toilet roll on the cistern behind us]. I keep forgetting it is on my right and l find it very awkward, so l move the toilet stand to the left side of the toilet and yet when l return, it is back on the right … l know right?

A right conundrum .. l feel that this battle of the rolls will be a permanent thing until one or other of us gets used to it being on the other side [or l have a toilet roll on the left in addition to the stand on the right].

My questions to you today are …..

Are you a leftie, rightie or maybe a middler?

What side of the toilet do you prefer to have the toilet roll on?

Let me know below. Thanks.

  1. There is a holder fastened to the wall to the right of the commode (if you are sitting down) in both of our bathrooms – we don’t use them, the holders. The “master” bathroom is a nightmare re: size and only my husband uses the commode and that is standing only. The hall bath commode is used by both of us (but not the smaller than a coffin shower) and the toilet paper is on a storage/dispenser stand that is behind the door. Close the door, and bingo the tp is directly in front of you, less than an arms reach away.

    1. I prefer TP on the back of a door especially if the door is close to hand. I used to live in a house years ago when l first left home that had a dwarf toilet that the TP was almost in front of your eyes!

  2. We have a standing holder on the left side. I’ve had it on either side in different places I’ve lived and it doesn’t matter which side its on… as long as it’s there๐Ÿ˜‰

The REAL Issue Of The Tissue is over or under๐Ÿ˜† I’m a very firm believer in over and will immediately change it if someone hangs it incorrectly. At Casa Cuckoo… I wouldn’t presume at some else’s home. Unless of course, I needed to hang a new roll… only polite, right?… then I would hang it correctly๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. Oh you’re one of those believers then eh/ Over rather than under ……….. Suze is an over, l am an under, but l am soooo not really bothered – under or over or on the side, makes no difference ๐Ÿ™‚

      But l hear ya …

  3. I never thought about that before lol โ€ฆ I donโ€™t think matters to me, am righty but whatever. My kids are leftyโ€™sโ€ฆ one is ambidextrous.

How come you canโ€™t have a roll in both spots ?? Then both be happy and no issues ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ™Œ

  4. The TP holder can be on either side, IMO! We have 2 bathrooms in our apartment and the holder in on the right side. I am a righty if I write but otherwise I am ambidextrous. Btw, I am a fan of the tissue over rather than under. And so it goes…

  5. I hadnโ€™t thought about it really. In the bathrooms in this house theyโ€™re all on the right. But, it doesnโ€™t make me much difference I donโ€™t think ๐Ÿค”

  6. A definite ‘righty’ come to think of it. That’s where they automatically seem to install those rollers. And you’ve explained something that has puzzled me for a while now. My master bath has it installed on the LEFT side. Now I know why that feels awkward. What do you know? Never would have thought of it. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜†

Now my FAVORITE roller type? Is one I saw in a magazine and which I still would like to find and buy…it’s a sort of rod affair (black wrought iron in the example) which has a screw on top. You line up perhaps five or six rolls on it, and you can move it where you want.. .it’s skinny enough to stand in a wee corner. That way you never run out abruptly either, which I always DO and which annoys me every single time.

    1. Hey Melanie, oddly enough the Toilet stand we have here that belongs to Suze is very similiar to the style you describe here ๐Ÿ™‚

I think the positioning becomes more apparently awkward especially with fixed holders if when involved in your ‘business’ that you notice it more when reaching for the paper ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Never thought about this before. Right now, our bathroom layout has a little shelf running on the right and a toilet roll holder that is part of the wall. But I think most of my homes have had the toilet roller holder on the left. I can honestly say I never noticed the difference until you mentioned it.
