A Guy Called Blokes Choice

Yesterday in the comments section of Is It More Important To You To Be a Good Blogger , Or a Community Player Or … What? Paula of Light Motifs II made a small comment which basically referred to the videos in The Hello. This came about due to something l was trying to adapt the blog to in the RSS feeder which was to not display the full post there but to have a redirect to my actual blog – something l discussed with Ashley – Mental Health @ Home in the post Why That? Why That Particular Theme?

It worked well as a system for a few days and then for reasons unknown to anyone – maybe WordPress can explain who knows …. it stopped working and basically just displayed a single image with no small excerpt . Currently it is back to how it was, but l am looking to change it back as soon as l can work it out.

However, Paula made mention to something which was ‘ I’m not interested in a string of videos…’ which is how
The Hello works currently for this Season – there are 5 videos every morning … 2 each for the 2 Guest Stars of the Day and 1 from my choice … the question l have to you all is this … would you prefer to 1] See the videos as they are visually like today, 2] Only see the video links or 3] Not see any videos at all and in essence not have the Guest Star Day.

If you provide an answer could you please also explain why you feel the way you do?

Now Paula, didn’t generate any of this line of questioning – it is purely me – because Paula, likes to see the music videos when it is her day – but l am asking you for your opinion because l find this topic quite interesting afterall l really do create this post for the community and so l need the community input to answer it?

So please let me know below … Thanks.

Rory

Thanks for joining me here and remember to have a thoroughly great day folks!!

  1. Good morning Rory. Thanks for the music and the mention mate 👍 As for your question, I like the format very much. It’s nice to read your blog and come across music videos that showcases music I wouldn’t usually get the time to listen to. It’s a great way to start the day 👍👍

  2. A very good morning to you Rory. I think the music dedication are a super cool gesture on your part and we all enjoy the videos. If not in the morning, then later.

  3. A Thunderinly Awesome Full Moon Thor’sDay to you, JB! 🌕⚡💃🏼🎶🌠

I will answer, even though you know my answer. I love the videos. Even if I don’t play the songs, seeing the video displayed starts the DJ in my head. It’s only 5 videos… not too much to scroll past if one isnt interested (like me on Country Music days😉)
    Keep dancing my friend, and I’ll see ya where A, B & C meet X, Y & Z💃🏼😉

  4. Good day, Rory! Is it Thursday (afternoon) already? How the days fly by…

I love the music videos just as they are. Not sure about the neighbours though *opening the door for a spot of Nirvana* I really must get some speakers for the laptop 😉

    1. Haha – oh well , it’s not like it’s a continuous stream of loud music from 8am – 11pm is it … right, like it’s not is it? hahaha

      Thanks for the heads up.

Have a great Thursday afternoon Chris.

  5. I used to post audio selections on Blogger, a kind of weekly blog radio slot. The audio widget sat in the sidebar and could be played while reading the posts. It would usually just be three songs long and recorded on a single mp3. However, WP doesn’t allow audio widgets on unpaid free blogs.

With video embeds, I like to put in code which reduces the screen size, but that’s my preference; the default size is a bit too big for my liking.

You have to do what you want, Rory. It’s your blog. It’s no bother for us to scroll past. I think I play the ones I’m unfamiliar with rather than the popular ones I’ve heard a lot. 🙂

    1. Hey Ian, many thanks for the input.

Yes l can understand what you are saying with regards the default size of the videos embedded, a smaller size l think would be more beneficial, even if we were able to gallerise the videos to make a wall , l would personally prefer.

      1. I can do a 2 column grid. A 3 column grid doesn’t seem to work no matter how small the videos appear; it puts the third column underneath! The two columns don’t look too bad though.

        1. Have a butcher’s…bear in mind I use ipad so not sure how it is on desktop or other.

It’s on my blog temporarily. 🙂

        2. Yes, if using Block Editor it’s the Column Block set at 2 columns, 50/50.
Now in each column I use one Paragraph Block for all the youtube codes, no spaces. I don’t use the Video Block or the Shortcode Block.
When copying and pasting, I have to leave out the square brackets in the code otherwise WP assumes a Shortcode Block (it might work though but not on mine; I’m using an old theme). Once the link is pasted, put in the square brackets.
The video screen widths are all 320; I don’t bother with the height value.
Do you need the full code?

        3. Wow, this is pretty technical Ian … l am following it all … however when l try and insert this code into the paragraph block https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM7a_LFA_t8 it purely displays as this … Trance Classics: The Biggest Trance Hits Of All Time – CD2 in link form, not even the usual html … but you are talking code … and l don’t even see any square brackets?

        4. Oh that’s my fault, sorry. WP code uses square brackets, it doesn’t come with the copied youtube link.

          *youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlNhD0oS5pk&w=320*

Above is the code I use in Paragraph Block but replace the *s with [ and ].
Then the bit which is RlNhD0oS5pk is the specific video ID. Replace that with the similar looking ID from the video link you want.

So I built the grid first repeating the same code above – three times in each column – and then when it looks okay in preview, I go in and change all the IDs.

It’s some task but it gets easier with familiarisation.

  6. Good Morning, Rory! I like seeing the videos as they are. I enjoy your selections and like how you pair up the videos with the blogger. Make it a great day! 🌞

  7. I like to see the videos as they are shown today – makes me more inclined to click on them and sample music I’m not familiar with or enjoy music I know…text links tend to be ignored in the moment.

  8. I like them. You’ve even hosted a couple that I didn’t know and that was fun. In the end though, you do what you feel is best for your blog. I think you’re doing a swell job.

  9. Hey Rory,
I’m quite late on this conversation 🙃sorry. I like the format as is. The visuals are fun and I enjoy sampling new music. Plus it’s a fun community way to start off the day. Keep up the good work! ☺️
