What is it then? Simply put it’s all about creating lists of things – they can be lists of normal, bizarre, strange, unusual, wacky things you get the idea, right?
Okay, but everything has to be themed otherwise we would have either a non-stop list or no list at all and we don’t want that – so let’s create a list on the subject of ….
……. 30 Trends of the 80’s!
So the 80’s rocked … right?
Well maybe not to those who considered the 70’s more of a rocksy time or those who believed the 90’s was more bitchin’ – however, one genre list at a time … and for this List we are looking to compile 30 Trends of the 80’s – now this can include music if you wish, films, television programmes, society, celebrity style, fashion, hairstyles, normal, bizarre, strange and enthusiastic ….. who knows what shape this list will take?
30 Trends of the 80’s!
What was it about the 80’s that we all loved and in some cases … hated so much? I remember the time well – the 70’s was an awful era for me and whilst the 80’s rocked, l also adored the 90’s – but the 80’s always has a place secured deep in my heart for discovery, for me the very birth of true boldly colourful and neon eclecticism came from the 80’s! The very essence of all culture was born in the 80’s! Of course many would say the 70’s or the 90’s, the arrival of the millenium holds more sweetened memories for them and l can understand that – but the two eras or periods of time that made the most impact on me were 1980 – 2000 – they molded my core – the inner me.
I am not the only one who shares this point of view either – oh no, no, no …. l am NOT the only one who thinks the 80’s Rocked or that the 80’s was Legion! Below are some of the Readers who remember the 80’s with both an enthusiasm and eagerness and also some adversity – l mean not EVERYTHING 80’s was dandy!
These were the most voted in Trends from the 80’s by our readers …….. l remember all with horror and desire! I went nowhere without being attached to my Walkman and whilst l never wore any leg warmers and or neon coloured spandex leggings – l knew many girls who did … and l followed them all the time … it was the colours that attracted me .. honest! Whilst the 80’s were big for boxy shoulders so too were the 90’s. I dated a girl once who had huuuuuuuuge hair but l personally never sported a mullet and DON’T talk to me about the Rubik’s!
Neon Coloured Leg Warmers
Big, BIG and Bigger Perm Hair!!
Mullets
Shoulder Pads
High Waisted Jeans
Rubik’s Cubes
Neon Spandex …….. Everything!!
Jelly Shoes
Neon Leggings
Walkman’s
The Remaining 20 Trends of the 80’s!
Remember ….. We Are The World – “When Musicians developed a social consciousness…”1985
…… nor should we forget “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” – Band Aid 1984
80’s Music …………………..
MTV – Music Television – 1981
80’s DISCO
Slap Bracelets – Neon of Course!
Blue Eyeshadow
Cabbage Patch Kids
Yo-Yo
When Harry Met Sally – 1989
A chance encounter between two graduates culminates in a short-term friendship. But when fate brings them back together five years later, they are forced to deal with how they feel about each other.
……. and this scene!!
Crimped Hair – for the good and bad of its effects!
Jerry and George stake out the lobby of an office building to find a woman Jerry met at a party but whose name and phone number he didn’t get.
Valley Girl 1983
I couldn’t list everything suggested – but l did include the Top 30 Items and trends and Favourited moments from 1980 – 1989 and there were lots more which shall receive a mention now …. female Thigh High Boots, Skin Tight Jeans for men, Pinball Machines, Video Game Arcades, ZX-81’s, Sparkly Combs, Chunky Jewellry, Capri Pants, Thong Bikini’s, Sushi, Ripped Knees, Lacey shirts for men and women, Koosh Balls, Parachute Pants, Giant Gobstoppers, Penny Sweets, Layered Clothing, Visible ‘white’ socks, Sequins and Tassles too, Retro Leathers, Massive Sunglasses, Denim Jackets and the bigger the better, Fitness fashion whether you were a fanatic or not, Harem pants, Sade, Safari Jackets and the list was endless….. …. but this post isn’t – anyway – just wanted to express my thanks to the readers who contributed to our Top 30’s 80’s Trends List!

I was 34 in 1980 so none of these things apply to me – not the music, the fashions, the movies – none of it (Thank God!)
