
Denzel Washington By Falkenauge
Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. (born December 28, 1954) is an American actor, director, and producer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation, and is considered an American cultural icon. He has received two Golden Globe awards, one Tony Award, and two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for the historical war drama film Glory (1989) and Best Actor for his role as corrupt detective Alonzo Harris in the crime thriller Training Day (2001).
Washington has received much critical acclaim for his film work since the 1980s, including his portrayals of real-life figures such as South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko in Cry Freedom (1987), Muslim minister and human rights activist Malcolm X in Malcolm X (1992), boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter in The Hurricane (1999), football coach Herman Boone in Remember the Titans (2000), poet and educator Melvin B. Tolson in The Great Debaters (2007), and drug kingpin Frank Lucas in American Gangster (2007). He has been a featured actor in films produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and has been a frequent collaborator of directors Spike Lee, Antoine Fuqua, and Tony Scott. In 2016, he received the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.
In 2002, Washington made his directorial debut with the biographical film Antwone Fisher. His second directorial effort was The Great Debaters (2007). His third film, Fences (2016), in which he also starred, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

I have been a huge fan of Denzel Washington for a long time and as l sat down and started to create this post l was trying to think of the first film l actually saw him in which was Glory 1989 and then next film was A Soldier’s Story 1984 – from those two movies l became a huge fan of his work.
My Top 13 choices have been hard because he has been cast so very well in so much of his work and l thoroughly enjoy his acting and like him as a person – however here are my personal favourites to date of the films l have seen. Now tell me, are you a fan or not?

Glory 1989
Robert Shaw, a white officer, faces opposition from his fellow officers and ire from enemy soldiers for leading a battalion of black soldiers.
Malcolm X 1992
A tribute to the controversial black activist and leader of the struggle for black liberation. He hit bottom during his imprisonment in the ’50s, he became a Black Muslim and then a leader in the Nation of Islam. His assassination in 1965 left a legacy of self-determination and racial pride.
Philadelphia 1993
A young Philadelphia lawyer who is infected with AIDS keeps his homosexuality hidden from his employers. When he is suddenly dismissed, he hires a homophobic lawyer for a wrongful dismissal suit.
Crimson Tide 1995
The Captain of a submarine wants to launch an attack while his deputy wants to wait for confirmation. Their conflict escalates into a mutiny with both of them fighting for the command of the ship.
The Bone Collector 1999
Lincoln, a detective who has quadriplegia, is on the case of a serial killer who abducts his victims and brutally kills them. Soon, the killer begins to leaves clues for him and his partner.
The Hurricane 1999
The life of Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter, an African-American boxer, is ruined when he is accused of murder and convicted to three life terms.
Remember the Titans 2000
Herman Boone, an African-American, is appointed as the new coach of a high school team. The team is playing as a racially-integrated team for the first time.
Man on Fire 2004
John, an ex-CIA officer, is entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding an entrepreneur’s daughter. When the girl gets kidnapped, John vows to seek revenge.
American Gangster 2007
Frank Lucas takes control of his boss Ellsworth Johnson’s business after the latter dies of a heart attack and expands his control to various businesses while secretly running a drug cartel.
Safe House 2012
Matt, a CIA agent, is tasked with looking after a criminal, locked in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, Matt escapes with the criminal in tow.
Flight 2012
