“What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.”

Joseph Addison

This morning l was awake early and by this l mean l woke long before my alarm at 6.00am. I was awake at 5.45am – but l stayed in bed till around 6.15am just looking at the daily news on my iPad. I still find it strange that a year ago, l would not have used an iPad – l had one – but l hadn’t used it. Yet l seemingly have my iPad with me everywhere l go these days.  It’s nice at times to have a portable computer with me – and more important than a phone. Although l know l am going to have to have one of those soon enough, but for the moment the iPad and l are fine.

“All our wisdom is stored in the trees.”

Santosh Kalwar

I was looking at blogs and doing some reading and thinking about life [as we do] and thinking about my day ahead and thinking, thinking, thinking … l am always thinking. I was stressing about this, that and the other and l don’t mean my mate Fandango … of late l have been like a runnaway rollercoaster some days and a trampoline other days and a kaleidoscope on those other days not mentioned and a host of other emotions and behaviours. I have tried to keep my balances level like a true Libran – EXCEPT l am not a Libran, l am a Taurus – Suze is a Libran and l know she is struggling with her own balancing acts!

“Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.”

Khalil Gibran, Sand and Foam

I was thinking ‘This time next year – everything you know today is going to be different because everything you know today will not be the same next year!” That’s just obvious isn’t it … well of course. The tomorrows of our world are already different to our yesterdays and whilst there might be some casual sameness, they are already different!

As l was going through my thoughts and reading l chanced upon this weeks What Do You See prompt by Sadje and l thought oh yes that’s right part of my new balancing strategy is to do the bulk of my reading and prompt responses on the weekends now – and therefore keeping my Monday to Friday free for the diversity of the blog. I have opted that certain things in my life are to change because my life is changing and fast and balance is hard to not just acquire but easily sustain!

This blackbird kept following me around the walk and finally he landed on the branches and allowed me to photograph him [the females are brown whilst the males are black]

One of my balances was to try and keep to 3 – 4 daily posts Monday to Friday only with an emphasis on three and an occasional 4th post, but l have struggled with that tactic this week … but it’s been a real topsy turvy week anyhoo! l am determined to get this balanced … l am slowly getting there.  But there is no much mixed emotion going on at times it’s hard to focus let alone achieve balanced equilibrium! But as l like to say “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” [Good Job really!!]

I wasn’t planning on creating a Morning Musings post today – but hey – life changes! At the same time l have been writing this post l have been playing with the new Gutenberg block layout on a dummy blog and l have to say …………. well actually I AM NOT unimpressed. I was worried about the tables l use in my blog and l remember seeing how distorted they were last year … but now l see that if l create WP blocked Tables over those of Word tables – they are more appropriate for the layout – so l can see me being very busy in the coming months transferring the old layout tables to the new tables.

I spyed the Jay before he spyed me and flew away!

My verdict therefore as an an intial is l take everything negative back l have said and say ‘It looks more efficient and improved than my first time last June ‘ but will require approaching it on a more balanced level … why am l surprised? Everything is about ‘Balancing One’s Equilibrium!’ Be this life, love, work, career, relationships, living and loving life, adrenalising life whatever you do, we do, l do it always comes back to the balancing the bloody equilibrium!! Blogging is to be no different!

I was so stressed about Gutenberg l couldn’t think straight and not because it was new and a change, but because l saw it briefly last year and it completely distorted my layout and l realised that l was and had experienced a Top Gun panic moment and l needed to experience it at my pace … yes l know … oh GROW the fuck up man!!

But l am cool with it now …. l am not an expert but like my friend Tex said recently that ‘she’ was not a complex writer it wasn’t so bad … well l am not a complex writer , prolific yes – but not complex, l don’t have any huge wizardry requirements. So in many respects basic block is me all over!! I am at the inner heart a man with basic requirements.

So that is at least one stress l can move on from!!

“The earth laughs in flowers.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

As l got out of bed l had that image of Sadje’s prompt in my head and had it flitting in my mind as l showered getting ready for my walk – it is such a simplistic image of three things a bench, a child and an aged tree … it ‘s all about life, the growing stages and cycles of life, it’s about being young and old, it’s about perspective  … but if you look at it from a different moment in time … it’s just another example of balancing one’s equilibrium!!

Today’s walk was a small walk around where l live and mostly concentrated on balances of nature and time and life – l hope you enjoy those captured moments in time.

Saw these and was like a child again – so had to share!

Thanks for reading catch you all again soon.

  1. I’m glad you found the new editor workable. I know that was a huge stressors. I haven’t even tried it yet.

Are those caterpillars at the end? Very pretty, but my first thought was “I bet Sven would love to nom nom on those”😂💌

    1. Ha ha and more ha ha’s — do you know why l included them? For Sven 🙂 Put the picture into his Grumpy Judgy corner he can look at those instead of everyone else 🙂

  2. Life is about finding balance and equilibrium. I agree the Prompt image goes well with your musings.
Love your photos. The new editor has me running scared. Let hope I try it and find it not so hard to manage!
Thanks for joining in the prompt.

    1. Well l have literally just converted to the new Block Editor now, l will be bloody busy this week, reformatting the old indexes to the new index tables 🙂

It’s different but easy but complex and yet not.

      1. This last sentence is so confusing! Me, I am sitting on the fence. Won’t do till I’m forced to shift.

        1. If l was you, l think you should set up a dummy blog, as in not paying and have a play around – l have converted and have a tonne of work to do – to ensure that the tables l use as indexes and archives are on the same block format … but that the complexity l face. You don’t use tables – but you do write a lot, and l think you will need to have a looksee before it swings in .. it takes getting used to Sadje – l create 3 -4 posts a day and am working on my 4th post now it was due to go out at 8.15pm UK and it has missed that cue – posts take slightly longer – so you might want to have a looksee before you have it launched in full next week.

          1. I will do it for my Sunday post. Last see how it pans out. I get totally confused by new tech and then would be so stressed out.

            1. I think if you are creating a simple textual post it’ll be easy or easier – things are in very different places and you forget to do things … like writing a paragraph you would simply hit enter and hey presto start a new line ……………. except you can’t do that now … so if you are writing and want to create a new paragraph you have to create a new block. Look at it as early as you can to avoid stress. 🙂

              1. I’ve just started a post. Managed to insert two pictures in there too. Thanks for the tip about paragraphs.

    1. Hey Tex – it certainly is taking some getting used to – l’ll not lie – l had to switch now l think because of the sheer volume of tables l use for indexes and archives in my blog.

Writing wise it just seems to take much longer to do the shortest of things and whilst yes there is some nice features … l think overall the block editor Gutenberg is antiquated and not entirely user friendly…..but no doubt in a few months time l will have gotten used to it and maybe even love it 🙂

      1. Maybe….🙃 time will tell. But I do wish you the best getting everything transferred over. That sounds like a mammoth task! 😊

          1. No indeedy it twasn’t 😄
Do you know where that expression came from? I never thought about it before but suddenly I’m wondering. 🧐

            1. John Heywood l believe his quote continues with Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day, but they were laying bricks by the hour … the reality is it took 700 years to build Rome and refers to the importance of things taking time or important things taking time to build .

I use this phrase a lot, all the time, l even put it into a tee shirt design ha ha 🙂

              1. The rest of the story! 😊 thank you! I use the expression as well. It’s a time worn one ☺️. Great for a T-shirt design!

  3. Beautiful photos Rory!
The new editor and the change can be scary but see? Nothing is impossible 😉 Just affront it in a positive way and in the end you’ll see that is not so bad 😉 I say it for myself too 🤪🤪
You’re very right! Equilibrium is the key! 😉

  4. well hi there rory. i am glad you enjoyed your walk. at least you can use the block editor, i hate it. I hope wp keeps the classic editor. am so not in the mood for learning something new.

  5. A very pleasant stroll through your stream of consciousness and the lovely photos from the walk, Rory. Glad you’re able to get out into nature.

  6. beautiful photos Rory. Equilibrium is so finely tuned. So very easy to loose it I work on loosing it for as short a time as possible. My Equilibrium is best when I follow my routine.
