Disclaimer – Pandemic, Disaster, Outbreak and Did l Say Pandemic Orientated Theme Yet?
One of the biggest and busiest genres during this whole moment in time with the dreaded C word everyone is beginning to hate for a whole lot of reasons – be this just Nasty C, C19, Coronavirus and Covid-19 is the ‘Disaster Action Movie’ genre – and it is proving popular in both film and literature – people can’t get enough of the old disaster theme!
So today here are in my eyes the Theme Times – Top Lockdown Movies!! #1
1 – Contagion – 2011
The death of Beth Emhoff and her son leads to the discovery of a deadly virus. While the US Centers for Disease Control struggles to curb its spread, a worldwide panic ensues.
2 – Shaun of the Dead – 2004
Shaun is a salesman whose life has no direction. However, his uneventful life takes a sudden turn when he has to singlehandedly deal with an entire community of zombies.
3 – The Last Days– 2013
Three months after a cataclysmic event trapped him and his fellow employees in their office building, a man (Quim Gutiérrez) emerges to look for his girlfriend.
4 – The Crazies – 1973
A military plane crashes near a small town, infecting the water supply with a deadly virus that causes insanity then death. The army moves in to control the situation, only for the civilians to treat them as invaders and then infect them as well.
5 – Invasion of The Body Snatchers – 1956
In Santa Mira, California, Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) is baffled when all his patients come to him with the same complaint: their loved ones seem to have been replaced by emotionless impostors. Despite others’ dismissive denials, Dr. Bennell, his former girlfriend Becky (Dana Wynter) and his friend Jack (King Donovan) soon discover that the patients’ suspicions are true: an alien species of human duplicates, grown from plant-like pods, is taking over the small town.
6 – Village of the Damned – 1960
In the English village of Midwich, the blond-haired, glowing-eyed children of uncertain paternity prove to have frightening powers.
7 – Day of the Triffids – 1962
After meteors enter Earth’s atmosphere, blinding much of the planet’s population in the process, plantlike creatures known as Triffids emerge from the craters and begin to take over. Military officer Bill Masen (Howard Keel), one of the few sighted people left alive, meets with other survivors in England and tries to find a safe haven from the vicious vegetation, as scientist Tom Goodwin (Kieron Moore) desperately seeks a way to defeat the leafy extraterrestrials.
8 – Blindness – 2008
An epidemic known as the ‘white sickness’ blinds everyone. A wife feigns to be affected by the disease in order to take care of her husband and lead him and their family to safety.
9 – I Am Legend – 2007
Robert Neville, a scientist, is the last human survivor of a plague in the whole of New York. He attempts to find a way to reverse the effects of the man-made virus by using his own immune blood.
10 – Outbreak – 1995
When a deadly virus, carried by a monkey host from the African rain forest, starts infecting the entire population, a handful of scientists struggle to find a cure.
11 – Carriers – 2009
Danny and Brian along with their friends Bobby and Kate, embark on a trip to escape a pandemic. However, one of them gets infected by the endangering virus.
12 – Flu – 2013
Chaos ensues after a lethal, airborne virus infects the population of a South Korean city less than 20 kilometres from Seoul.
13 – Doomsday – 2008
Eden Sinclair and her team of specialists are sent to a zombie-ravaged Scotland to retrieve a cure for a virus known as Reaper which is threatening to wipe away humanity.
14 – 28 Weeks Later – 2007
Six months after the Rage virus turned half of Britain into zombies, the US Army helps secure London for the survivors after a carrier of the virus enters the city and the horror begins once again.
15 – 28 Days Later – 2002
After a mysterious virus wreaks havoc in the United Kingdom, a team of survivors tries to cope with the aftermath of the disaster and find security.
