Q.1

What are your favourite genres to read?

I have a lot of different genres l like to read from – if l look at my current reading pile, l have an ever growing pile of books both hard copy and digital and l am reading from them all in one format or another over the course of a given week – the genres are:

“How To’ Information Guides, “Gardening”, “Inspiration and Motivation”, Comedy, Childrens, Fiction Stories, Erotica, Travel Guides, Lifestyle and Development. I have pretty eclectic tastes and believe strongly in reading from as diverse a genre range as l can.

Q.2

What are your favourite genres to write about?

I try to write from as broad a range of topics as l can – but principally – fiction, personal narrative, erotica, non- fiction, autobiographical, creative non-fiction and poetry.

Q.3

Why do you like your favourite reading genres – what is it that appeals to you about them – please discuss.

As said l have many favourited genres that appeal to me – l peak and l trough and peak and wane with interests in literature – one month l might be obsessed with X and the other l am enthralled with Y or W. My principal goal in reading in only two fold – 1] entertainment and 2] knowledge. Pending which mode l am in that month is reflective upon my reading. For the past few months l have been reading from both entertaininment and the knowledge genres exclusively with quite possibly more of a lean towards how to knowledge. With regards what appeals, well with entertainment l like to escape and with knowledge acquisition l want to deepen my understanding of something.

What prompts you to write about your favourite genres?

My main deciding prompters  … l  only have a vague idea each day what l am going to decide to write about. Truthfully speaking l have a lot of posts l could be writing – but for me – it is about ‘Time’, Mood and what is pressing the most on the scheduler, followed by season and reflection.

Now that l only publish three main posts daily and one of those is a dedication greeting post, so in essence l am only having to write and publish two feature posts a day, whilst there will be a Fourth Flexi slot on some days – in the main l only have to decide on the content of two main posts.

As l host a lot of series in the blog on a range of concepts and styles – it really comes down to what l have time for or time to do in the case of prompt responses and what is pressing the most. With the broad range of topics l do cover l am able to pick and choose creatively based on my time and requirements, desires and need.

What do you think are the most popular read and written about genres and why?

Well having worked in the book market albeit [hard copy], l can’t see the digital genre industry being any different – so my guesses would be:

Erotica/Love and Romance [both factual and fiction], Escapism Fiction [action and adventure], Fantasy, Classic and Cult, Crime and Detective, Horror and Supernatural [real life, how to and fiction], Short Fiction Stories, Womens Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, How To Guides, Travel, Self-Help, Poetry and other lesser genres bringing up the rear guard.

What makes a genre favourite and or popular? Lots of reasons really – the main one is consumer decisioning – it’s readers that make and break popularity.  A programme on television, or a recent film release can increase a new wave surge for some genres, climate and global events can both increase and decrease motivation for popularity, when the world wants to escape – fantasy genres go through the roof. Many readers are author specific  so they follow patterns of publishing by their favourite writers.

Sometimes the little things can swing best seller trends like a great review, a fantastic description or even just a catchy cover.  Trends have been known to swing before due to certain niches suddenly going viral.

In the main though certain genres have always been popular such as Fictional –  Erotics, Romance, Horror, Thriller, Action.

Erotica is a very popular genre – if you think back as an example to Fifty Shades buy author  E. L. James, that started life as an eBook that was classed in the UK as Mummy Porn or soft porn, but it went viral and then it went hard copy then it picked up a film contract!  Erotica is one of the most popular genres going – Adult Fiction, Factual and Fantasy is one of the leading most widely read genres today.

Digital book sales and trends have moved the popularity listings all over the place and because of the that –  bestselling popular genres move around daily, weekly and monthly – need proof – look at the Amazon bestsellers book categories.

In terms of ‘written genres like blog content’ – This is pretty easy to answer – it is different to the popularity in books though and yet it ties exclusively in with the increase of sales in eBooks and their bestsellers rankings strangely enough.

How to guides, self – improvement,  recipes, travel guides, beginner guides, relatable stories and entertainment are the most commonly written about topics

  1. I read horror, supernatural, sci fi, fantasy, historical fiction, non-fiction, biographies, whodunnit… just about anything. I’m not a fan of the romance or as I call them “Bodice Rippers”, but I read one of Paula’s and liked the story.

I read from different genres because I like so many things. I want to experience everything, even if only in my imagination.

I write rants, daily life stuff, mostly stuff about me, Ben and life in general. Does that have a genre beside ‘journal/diary’? I can write a bit of rhyme but not actual poetry. As far as fiction goes, I’ve tried and for some reason my brain seizes up. It’s weird because I did well in ‘Creative Writing’ in school. Maybe I’m supposed to only write real world stuff now?🤷🏼‍♀️

    1. Well maybe that is the destiny, or the other reason being, you are stretched to your mental limits with sleep deprivation and a wracked body with not feeling well, stress with life at home … it does take its toll on us all – but l love what you write anyways 🙂

  2. I’ll do a blog post about this, but wanted to say I’m reading and responding. I’m doing this on the reader because it’s easier to comment. Be back soon! 🙂

  3. OH! Sorry, I didn’t see the question until after I’d pressed “send”…no, the t-shirt hasn’t arrive yet, but there’s usually a bit of a delay. The mail service up here isn’t great nor swift! It’ll arrive in short order I’m positive though! 🙂
