I Had a Dream … What Da?!!!
Waking up this morning was not a pleasant experience … in so far as l am not totally sure when l woke up? I had both alarms herald the new day at 6.59am … one a classic old alarm bell – clanging the day in and the other a radio alarm clock set to Kent radio – but once again soothing me with some lyrical charm from Germany as in, it wasn’t music – it was “Blacque blag, hurk naben! Ha ha ha!!” Yes of course that makes for sense at 7.01am, lying in bed with a terrible morning headache in Kent, England!
I wasn’t ready to face the world, l had a dream to return to, so swiping the alarm clock off and switching off German radio, l re-entered the realm of madness to try and find justice to my problem! The damn thing had already woken me three times during the night!
I dream quite a bit, but it’s only once every three weeks that l experience and encounter a nightmare of seriously vile proportion! I dream in mostly full vibrant colour and intense detail, there is noise, sounds, voices and me having conversations .. on the odd occasions l experience pain in my ‘dreams’ and wake up and discover l am in pain.
The Golden Tip – l have learned however is that ‘sensation of warm lovliness’ is not what you think it is, but the opposite it’s your bladder telling you 1] you have just wet yourself or 2] get out of bed you lazy git or you will wet yourself and stop dry humping the pillow and your imaginary friend!
They say that a dream is ….
A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. The content and purpose of dreams are not fully understood, although they have been a topic of scientific, philosophical and religious interest throughout recorded history. Dream interpretation is the attempt at drawing meaning from dreams and searching for an underlying message. The scientific study of dreams is called oneirology.
… whilst a Nightmare is …
A nightmare, also called a bad dream, is an unpleasant dream that can cause a strong emotional response from the mind, typically fear but also despair, anxiety and great sadness. However, psychological nomenclature differentiates between nightmares and bad dreams, specifically, people remain asleep during bad dreams whereas nightmares awaken individuals. Further, the process of psychological homeostasis employs bad dreams to protect an individual’s Homeostatically Protected Mood (HPMood) from the impact of elevated anxiety levels. During sleep, nightmares indicate the failure of the homeostatic system employing bad dreams to extinguish anxiety accumulated throughout the day. The dream may contain situations of discomfort, psychological or physical terror or panic. After a nightmare, a person will often awaken in a state of distress and may be unable to return to sleep for a short period of time.
The duration of a dream is …
Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur during other stages of sleep. However, these dreams tend to be much less vivid or memorable. The length of a dream can vary; they may last for a few seconds, or approximately 20–30 minutes.People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase. The average person has three to five dreams per night, and some may have up to seven; however, most dreams are immediately or quickly forgotten. Dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses. During a full eight-hour night sleep, most dreams occur in the typical two hours of REM. Dreams related to waking-life experiences are associated with REM theta activity, which suggests that emotional memory processing takes place in REM sleep
I retired to bed this morning at around 1.25am, my usual time, l felt alright, l read for a further 20 minutes the Brat Pack History – so nothing truly alarming – Scrappy was asleep at the foot of the bed in her own bed asleep. I turned the light off and went through my 5,4,3,2,1 SLEEP Now Mantra – which takes ten seconds and after which l am asleep, yes folks it’s that simple for me!
There’s a further secret, but l’ll not share that with anyone and only those who know the secret to SLEEP in ten seconds know it well … it’s something that shall travel to the grave with me. Why did l mention it then? So, those who don’t know it can spend a day researching it of course!!
All of us at one time or another have what might be seen as the ‘odd dream, the off the wall or the wack skull fuck! I enjoy experiencing them as they fire up my creativity – l mean classic example is today l am writing a post about a dream or nightmare l had last night, that when l woke up, l was still inside it! Hence why l had to return to it, l had been wronged!! I have the power, l could regain control … but only if l could get back into that realm!
Most weird dreams have interpretation to them – it just might take a little time to reach the conclusion and that may not be achieved in a day but over several weeks – our brains are remarkably clever and horrendously cryptic at the same time! Who said life was supposed to be easy? When younger – back in the days of when my body didn’t ache at every turn – for me that was my twenties – l used to be into all sorts of things and people [interpret as you see fit!] and l was one big eager beaver sponge like entity – l needed to acquire information to feed my curiosity.
I still have at my own concession a deviant mind to a certain degree, l never deny that l have fetish fantasy, but then l have put almost all of them into practice over the years. I will die curious about things – people, life, cultures and practices. I love diversity and thoroughly welcome diversity in all forms even the bizarre – so in my twenties it was NOT uncommon for me to be researching this magic, that magick, that phenomena or that practice, studying that religion, experimenting sexually or working my eager mind into many crevices of wonder …in order to learn. I read and read and put theory into practice – how else do we learn? How else do we come to understand what we like and don’t like and or enjoy?
I worked with the Tarot, l played with the Ouija boards, l studied dreams and interpretation and astrology – l watched and interacted with things that supposedly ‘decent and normal’ people didn’t do? Says who l would ask? I had no moderation so life was there to be exploited, sexploited and explored and of course discovered!
Yet, the dream turned nightmare of last night truly has me stumped and will have me trying to understand the translation and overall interpretation most of this weekend – l mean where am l to start? Imagine the scene if you can …
‘ I am alone in a building, it is my apartment on the sea, it is decorated blandly but is obviously expensive not just down to location, but the sparseness is not cheap, but deliberate – it is decorated with intention …it comprises of a fourposter bed, one rich mahogany desk and leather bound Captains chair, opposite is a mirror with strange decals emblazoned on the side frames.
l look out of the window behind the desk and see a helicopter gunship with the crew in the open hatchway gun ready and aimed at me?
‘A knock on the door brings me to my reality from the surreal. Upon answering l see it is my old landlady from the caravan days – the slave maker as l called her back then’, she barges in, “I am on the run!” She yells at me, ‘Hide me before they catch me?’
With that she dumps a small hand sized green suede drawstring jewel bag onto my desk and runs into a room that wasn’t there before …
The front door opens, a man and a woman walk in, armed to the teeth – police! “Where is he?” They ask “He?’; I question. “We are to search her house!” “Her?” I query thoroughly confused. With that they start searching the space l am in, it doesn’t take long for them to uncover the bag on the desk, draw the strings to the green suede jewel bag and empty out a large quantity of drugs that simply could not fit into the small bag. “Right, this is exactly it! You have been found guilty and are now to be executed!”
“I see the gun raise against the right side of my temple, and feel the bullet enter my skull and literally feel it tearing its way through flesh and bone … in the mirror opposite l see the brain matter and blood exploding out of the left side of my head!’
I wake up bathed in sweat at 2.49am “What Da?” I fall asleep again…
“I can see myself lying on a marble floor, the blood pooling on the floor l am on leeching slowly into the grooves. I am naked apart from a loin cloth. The door that wasn’t there opens up, and out steps the landlady “You lost the jewels, you are hopeless!” She disappears through the front door.
Through the mirror l can still see the open window and the gunship still in position, now l can see at the helm my ex wife grinning and she lets rips with a machine gun. I can see the bullets flying through the air and feel them as they rip and slice into my already dead body!! The pain that is not present is intense!
…………….. l awaken again at 3.13am, seriously troubled, bathed in sweat and my body is on fire with the pain of that last image …. l fall asleep again!
The room l am in is filled with people, pirates, not modern day pirates but old century pirates “Where be the jewels?” They scream at me, they kick at me and lift my lifeless body to the chair and start beating me up.
Cut scene … l am in a different room filled with fabric armchairs and naked people apart from loincloths like mine , we are all dead and we are all tied up in a strange rope ….
Cut scene … “You are accused of only pretending to be dead!” The judge who happens to be a Tiger dressed in robes tells me, l therefore sentence you to life! But first …
Cut scene … the pirates again, ‘”Where are the jewels?”
Cut scene … a colourful and vibrant jungle undergrowth filled with fabric couches, loin clothed dead people in a queue like me, musical chairs playing …
Cut scene …. we are all dead, l can feel the painful hole in my head, the blood has dried, l have a terrible headache, l am sitting on the armchairs with the other dead people …
Cut scene … pandemonium we are all being chased by large brown and black grizzly bears – the bears are taking the dead living away. I see a huge bear taking aim with its right paw, claws outstretched – it yells at me “Where are the jewels?” I watch in slow motion as the claws hit me and rip my face off ….
My alarms wake me up at 6.59am, l quickly turn them off, my head is pounding … 5,4,3,2,1 and l am back in …
… to a world of absence, devoid of colour, or life and death, of pirates, bears and chairs – there are no people …. but in the void l can hear a voice whispering for to find it and all will be revealed!
I wake up at 8.01am, dead to the world with a headache from hell and 100 questions all seeking answers?
How about you? Have any strange dreams or nightmares?
