Richard Tiffany Gere (IPA:  born August 31, 1949) is an American actor and producer. He began in films in the 1970s, playing a supporting role in Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) and a starring role in Days of Heaven (1978). He came to prominence with his role in the film American Gigolo (1980), which established him as a leading man and a sex symbol. He went on to star in many well-received films, including An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), The Cotton Club (1984), Pretty Woman (1990), Sommersby (1993), Primal Fear (1996), Runaway Bride (1999), I’m Not There (2007), Arbitrage (2012) and Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer (2016). For portraying Billy Flynn in the Academy Award-winning musical Chicago (2002), he won a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the cast.

From 1942 until D-Day, several million Americans landed in Britain on their way to fight at the European front. But many memorable friendships developed between American soldiers and English women.

I am dedicating this Bio to Paula of Light Motifs II who only yesterday voiced her fondness for Richard over that of Julia Roberts – so it seemed more than fair to display this great actors roles as well. I have followed Richard Gere as an actor since his 1979 film ‘Yanks’ and have a lot of time for his performances. Now how about you – fan or not – favourite film would be?

  1. Woo! Thank you! Awesome post. Hard to pick a favorite (I haven’t seen them all). He was so great in Chicago I’ll probably have to go with that one ~ I rewatch it periodically. I will always love him as Zach though. I have seen Officer & Gentleman several times. Unfaithful was a wonderful movie ~ Diane Lane is another favorite actor of mine. 😍

  2. I have so much respect for Richard Gere! I’ve seen Officer & Gentleman, Unfaithful, Primal Fear (saw this in high school Psych 101class),Internal Affairs, but Mothman Prophecies, Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Brooklyn’s Finest (he was a disillusioned cop on the verge of retiring who fell in love with his regular prostitute; the whole movie wasn’t centered around him, he played a small role alongside Ethan Hawke-a corrupt cop)

  3. Nice post Rory 😀.

Ya I think RG is a good actor, I love that movie An officer and a gentleman I seen it a couple of times.
I’ve seen a couple of those movies.
