Questions  19th August 2019

What would be your solution to the over-population of the earth?   Earth has finite resources and humanity seems to be breeding themselves to extinction.   Some countries have tried restricting the number of children a couple or a person can have, with little success.  So what other viable options are there for reducing the number of people?

One of the foremost rising controversial debates globally today is the world’s overpopulation problem and what can be done to effectively tackle it? The topic is controversial for good reason – people believe that to raise the subject infringes upon their personal rights of choice and freedom.

However, my philosophy as indeed the opinion of many is that our world is running out of resources and what then? When the world is depleted of natural reserves and with rising population problems … what then? As your question states all we are simply doing is breeding ourselves into extinction.

There are many possibles, however it will come down eventually to government restrictions and law l feel in an almost Sci Fi type of scenario.

We could of course opt for the Logans Run approach, where no one is allowed to pass the age of thirty …

In the year 2274, young residents enjoy an idyllic, hedonistic lifestyle within the protective confines of a domed city. The general belief is that when each person turns 30, they are reincarnated for another blissful life cycle. Those who know the much darker truth become “runners” and flee to a hidden sanctuary. When law enforcement officer Logan (Michael York) goes undercover to locate the refuge, he winds up instead trying to initiate a revolution with runner Jessica (Jenny Agutter).

But that is probably a little too restrictive maybe …

However ideas that are being discussed internationally are …

Increased governmental aids for family planning, education, learning and health facilities on the shape of our world …

Religion could and should start the healthy promotion of contraception and stop bolstering the need for procreation …

Education programmes should incorporate population and birth control as well as climate and environmental as regularities in teaching…

Advertisers could work together to design a globally continuous campaign where upon climate change and population control are the prime motivations and the new normal approach to life.

Governments should work to empower women, promote equality,, equal rights and gender opportunity

Increasing awareness regarding sexual education, sterilisation could be free, legalise abortion, legalise the rights to die [ as in voluntary euthanasia] and not just on the terminally ill – but if the elderly wish to have that in place they can …

Raise the age of marriage and impose child restrictions per family and police it … basically we need to decrease the amount of unwanted/unplanned pregnancies and enforce those policies …

Reduce the amount of suburbias being built and dedicate more open lands to nature

Population and depopulation control should not be a controversial, taboo or stigma bound topic and should be freely and openly discussed without fear of reprisal or condemnation …

This is as said a controversial topic for good reasons, because of all the environmental disasters we actually face it is indeed overpopulation and lack of control that will literally breed us into the end.

What’s invisible but you wish people could see?

Mental Health – Many people suffer from depression, anxiety, hidden disorders and the such like. The amount of times as an example we have employers giving employees a hard time because of mental health because they cannot see their problems would help everyone a lot more. But then also ‘consequence of action and thought’, this is invisible and yet it is present. If more people could see the consequences of their actions on others – l think we would have less pain in the world.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?

That despite what people think about swimming in the big blue, they are more likely to be involved in a car crash than eaten by a shark!

What are the unwritten rules of where you work? If you don’t work (retired or unemployed) what are the unwritten rules you live your life by?

Chew your damn food with your mouth closed!

Don’t pick your nose and eat it in public!

Don’t reverse on the motorway or travel the wrong way into oncoming traffic!

When answering someone don’t just say K, say OK or hey even Okay and most assuredly not KK!!

Replacing the toilet roll when you have emptied it!

Don’t spit at people!

Don’t hate on people!

Don’t deliberately set out to hurt people.

How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?

Why is it wrong? Just another food isn’t it? I think the question should ask how would you feel about putting dog poop on pizza?

Toilet paper, over or under?

Apparently under …. makes no odds to me, l use three slices so over or under doesn’t affect me.

What’s the best type of cheese?

Mm, quite possibly ones that l like ….

Say ….

……. More, it costs nothing and is polite!

Do this more ….

…. it brightens your face and can make the world to some!

We all need to remember to do this more often …

  1. There are lots of people having babies in some places and few in others. This is a problem for all locations because of aging populations needing younger folks to help out, which is generally in wealthier countries. The solution is obvious, which is to financially incentivize relocation. But of course that’s too logical and it would never work because of our wacky tribal notion that people must stay in their artificial borders within their arbitrarily named countries and be part of their groups, hopefully frothed into endless hatred of other groups, as this keeps the minuscule percentage of uber wealthy in power.

    1. Hey Paula, absolutely – the problem with a question like this is that there ARE so many solutions that can be created, established and maintained – but it does come to people and their choices.

I do feel however that somewhere in the future and by this you and l will see it in our own futures more administrations will come to pass globally that will introduce ideas like you mention.

The world has to join hands on this problem and fast – l was reading today about the World’s Lungs being on fire [Amazon Rainforest] and l shudder, because l don’t think many people tend to look at the further reaching implications of this alone … to many it’s just another environmental problem, but this one l think is a real nasty sod that is going to rear its head sooner rather than later on the global population scenario – thanks for commenting 🙂

    1. Hey Sadje, they are international views in truth – there are huge conferences this year where many governments are coming together to discuss the future of the planet – top five of their agenda is population control.

My own views are that unless something is done, people will potentially no longer have a choice in the matter – it is a heavily debated and oft extremely controversial subject.

        1. Very much so, but also the populations need to be aware of the critical situation that over populating is creating – so the education of environmental awareness and climatic impact.

          1. There is no one guiltier party than the next, big companies are equally responsible for their part in this such as intensive farming and agricultural strategies, but poor and also greedy governments are too blame just as much. Inadequate welfare systems, poor economies, warfare, civil warfare, poorer country education systems, poor quality environmental awareness programmes – we can blame all sorts of individual elements but the fact remains the same – the population is increasing too fast, there are simply way too many people, we have a population increasing on a planet that is sadly not getting any larger and has not got the potential for getting any bigger.

Populations need to be reduced or basically the planet will sink under the global weight.

More people need more land to live on, more land being lived on reduces natural resources and resource competition becomes intense – this a wild card catch 22 playing out now.

  2. Logan’s Run is a great movie!

I read about the fires in the Amazon too. I dont think people truly understand how important the rainforests are. And all the fires in Canada, Russia and Alaska are just going to speed the polar melt. The heat will be trapped by the smoke and no trees to absorb the CO2.

Very sensible ideas for population control. Unfortunately, a lot of people aren’t very sensible. Maybe Gaia will get fed up and cull the herd.

    1. Hey Grandma, oh you are right people haven’t got an absolute and actual clue what the true damage of this truly is – even people who say they understand the problem REALLY have no idea how bad this all is.

  3. Thanks Rory for Sharing Your World! You put quite a lot of thought and time into your post, and I appreciate your insights! Cheers! 😀
