Incy Wincy Spider Nursery Rhyme

Lyrics

Incy Wincy spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
So, Incy Wincy spider went up the water spout again

Incy Wincy spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
So, Incy Wincy spider went up the water spout again

Incy Wincy spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
So, Incy Wincy spider went up the water spout again

The song can be found in publications including an alternative version in the book, Camp and Camino in Lower California (1910), where it was referred to as [the classic] “Spider Song.” It appears to be a different version of this song using “blooming, bloody” instead of “itsy bitsy”. It was later published in one of its several modern versions in Western Folklore, by the California Folklore Society (1948), Mike and Peggy Seeger’s, American Folk Songs for Children (1948). In 2013 Maziar Bahari’s company Off-Centre Productions created an animated version of the song featuring an animated mouse character called “Journo.”

Lyrics as described in 1910, as being from the ‘classic’ “Spider Song”

Oh, the blooming, bloody spider went up the spider web,
The blooming, bloody rain came down and washed the spider out,
The blooming, bloody sun came out and dried up all the rain,
And the blooming, bloody spider came up the web again.

The Bothered Spider!!

Blah, blah and more blah do you lot know hard this all is?
To constantly climb up, to be continually washed down,
Not being funny folks, but stop taking the piss!
Am about fit to bloody burst and have me a meltdown!

I am a spider you know, a scary menacing creepy crawly,
All this nonsense about it being oh so ha ha funny,
Is just diabolical and fills me with some melancholy,
Never mind your silly songs and happy rhymes, l am grumpy!

All l want to do, is get to the sodding top you know!
Get back to the wife and the ever increasing spiderling cluster,
With me days hunting, but no of course not, down l go!
Again, because of the bloody rain, l am getting all a fluster!!

Luckily, l have the determination and a truckload of stamina,
Apparently the patience of a sloth, OKAY albeit 8 legged,
But l am household stock see, not a darn great big tarantula!
Still small enough mind, to make you all a little dreaded,
Of you know, like where l might actually be when not up there,
Keep on singing like gormless uncaring lunatics,
You might find out one dark and lonely night, l swear!
Then you and me can engage one to one like in the Incy Wincy politics!
