Doodlepip’s Interviews – Sven 81

Doodlepip’s Interviews Directory

Your Name?

My name is Sven. I am also called Mr Grumpy Beard occasionally, or Sven The Magic Dragon

What do you call your 2-leggeds?

Servants, what else?!

What species of animal are you?

I am a Bearded Dragon Pogona vitticeps

What colour/s are you [if applicable]

I’m mostly kind of yellowish and brownish. When I’m grumpy my neck turns black. That’s why my kind of lizard is called a “Bearded” Dragon, it looks like a beard.

How old Are You?

I’m not sure of my age. I was found living with a homeless person who found me wandering. My Servants took me home because the homeless lady couldn’t properly care for me. I’ve lived with my Servants for about one year and I was a juvenile when I came here so let’s guess and say I’m two. Yes, that seems right.

Do you live inside or outside and more importantly – do you run your household or share in the decisions?

I love in a terrarium which is in the living room. Sometimes I’m taken out for cuddles or a nice warm shower, but I want to run away and explore and my Servants won’t let me. It’s because of the K9, the Zeus, he likes to chase and plays too rough. My Servants are afraid I’ll get hurt.

Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?

Yes, of course. If I feel like I’m not getting enough attention I will share at them with my beard very black. Or sometimes I go inside my house and stay there. I don’t even come out to eat.

Do you have a bed or a favourite sleeping place?

Sometimes I sleep on my hammock, sometimes I sleep on my branch, sometimes I sleep on my rock. Hmmm…I just sleep wherever I happen to be, I guess.

Are you always with your 2-leggeds or do you sometimes need ‘Time out?’

I mostly stay in my terrarium

Do your 2 leggeds make you ‘dress up?’ If so, when or what for and do you enjoy it?

They tried to dress me up for Halloween. I wasn’t pleased.

Are you photogenic or make them run after you to capture you on film?

I am a very handsome dragon and l think you’ll agree this image speaks volumes …yes?

Do you have a friendly vet?

I haven’t been to the vet yet, but I’ve heard there’s a very nice vet that specializes in exotics like me. My sister Kris the Corn Snake went when she was sick and she said they were nice.

Do you have any favourited toys?

I don’t really play with toys.

What would be a really great day for you?

Running around and exploring wherever I want to go, eating lots of bugs and a snooze in the sun.

If you could say anything to your 2 leggeds what would it be?

Pay more attention to me!

Where abouts in the world do you live?

Southern California, USA

How often and for how long do you engage in playtime or exercize?

I’m pretty lazy to be honest. I don’t do much exercize – see this – this now, what l am doing? Right, well when l am not running, this is posture is my exercize – this is a real skill to make this hard work look easy!!

Do you do lots of adventuring when out and about?

I don’t get to go out and about.

Do your 2 leggeds allow you to interact with other animals?

Sometimes after I have a warm shower and I’m all cuddly in a towel the K9 will come up a sniff at me. I don’t like it.

If I see myself in a mirror I think it’s another Dragon and I do my head bobbing. Us male dragons are very territorial.

Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?

Not so far. They better not or my beard will be very black!

Do your 2-leggeds expect you to entertain them at all and/or do they entertain you?

They laugh at some of the things I do. Who can understand 2-legged behavior?

Are you a much loved member of the family?

Of course! Every creature in our family is loved.

Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them?

My 2-legged never go away anywhere. If they were to go away, I imagine that Auntie would come by to care of me. She used to live here with Kris the Corn Snake and Drakeo the Bearded Dragon, but they moved to a different place.

Are you given treats? What are your favourites?

I like blueberries the best or sometimes a hornworm

Are you fed a nutritional and well-rounded balanced diet? Tell us about it.

I eat greens daily. I’ve had turnip, mustard and collard greens, but I like arugula the best. I also eat roaches or crickets or worms a couple times a week. I’ve eaten strawberries and banana and watermelon and, my favorite, blueberries.

Are you allowed to sample your 2 leggeds food or is it something you have no interest for?

It depends on what they’re eating. I can eat most fruits and veggies in small amounts. Usually they just put things in my dish.

Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …

A lot of 2-legged think reptiles are icky and boring. I very much have a personality if  you take the time to get to know me. I enjoy a cuddle with a 2-legged because they are warm and it’s relaxing. I am very easy to care for and only make noise if I fall off my branch when I’m asleep. (no laughing, please)

My Servants have been talking about buying a harness for me so we can go outside on the grass. I really hope they do it.

Scrappy’s Thanks

Hey Sven, it was a real pleasure to make your acquaintance, you are my first Bearded Dragon in so far as interview, but not the first one to make the acquaintance of admittedly. Dad used to know lots of people with all sorts of reptiles and Beared Dradons were a real favourite, so l have met quite a few as well as Chameleons and Corn Snakes as well as on that one occasion – the large snake, which l will be very honest with you and say … l did not like her at all, she frightened me quite a bit! But dad was also a little bit scared, mind you the following year he had a lot more to be scared about, as the big girl snake and dad got into a spot of bother!

I am sure dad will write about it at one point!

However, like dad, l digressed. I think you sound like you have quite a nice life, you are able to enjoy life for sure and of course it is indeed nice to feel cuddly, but l can also understand why Zeus might want to play with you like a ball. I have a dog here in the neighbourhood by the name of Mia, she is exactly the same breed as Zeus’s mix and she is always up to no good, into everything, digging, chasing things and she is incredibly curious – we sort of get along, but not really – bit like you and Zeus, so l can understand!

I think a harness would be a very good thing for you also, l have seen BD’s walking in them and they are quite snazzy, l founf a quirky little link for you as well … where the 2 leggeds could make one of them for you!

Anyway, l just wanted to say again Sven thank you for taking the time out of your ‘ahem, unbelievably busy day to take pawt in my Doodlepip Interview! Ps – say hi to Grandma [ Angie of King Ben’s Grandma ] for me as well …. yes and Zeus too!

Way to go Sven – Power to the … er, mm Beardie!

Hope you enjoyed reading … Tootle Pip from Doodlepip!

“If you are interested in pawticipaing please email me at and l will email you back with the questionnaire.”

Looking pawards to hearing from many, many more!

  1. Sven is snoozing under his heat lamp at the moment so, as his Servant, I am handling his correspondence.
Thanks for the link! A harness is definitely needed because even though he looks lazy and slow, when he gets going he’s really fast.
Sven was very happy to spread the word that reptiles make good petz.
