1] Blog Name
2] What is your blog’s specific genre?
I supposed you could call it a lifestyle blog
3] How old is your Blog?
This is my third blog. The first was on blogger and lasted a year. The second was self hosted but connected to WP and called Suziland. It imploded and I was unable to get it repaired…I did manage to transfer all the old posts to a new site hosted by WP and thus seven years after beginning this blog journey I have this one. So 7 years I suppose.
4] Why did you feel the need to start an actual blog?
My son asked questions about my childhood and teen years. I had kept a journal for years but wanted something he could read while overseas…thus the blog
5] What age were you when you first started to write?
I started writing stories at 45 or so Poems at 13…really Bad, angst filled pseudo-intellectual poetry at age 17..it just got worse.
6] Was it a natural process or did something or someone inspire you to put your first thoughts to paper?
There’s not a thing natural about me and writing..or reading for that matter. I have dyslexia and dysgraphia. Reading and writing are both painfully difficult. I write so I do not lose the ability to do so.
7] Would you say that your creativity flows easily or do you need to be motivated by an event or a moment in your life to trigger it?
It totally depends upon my mood. If I am in a good mood the thoughts just flow. If I am in a really bad mood, or in pain then nothing comes.
8] How frequent or prolific are you with your writing and blogging?
I am what I call a sporadic writer. There are days, weeks, months when it flows and I write a LOT every day. Sometimes posting five or six times. Then there are the months that go by with one or two posts.
9] Is it just WordPress that your writing is displayed or other platforms as well?
Just wordpress. I don’t twit or tweet or whatever it is. And I rarely write anything in FB.
10] Do you use social media to advertise and market your blog? If so which ones and how effective is it/are they?
I have facebook…and the blog does display there on it’s own mini-me page. But I do not advertise. I tried to monetize Suziland (my second and most prolific blog) but that didn’t work well. 1.52 is not a ton of money.
11] Writers block we all get it at one point or another – if you do suffer from it, how do you tackle the problem?
I don’t. I give in to it. Writing is never going to be my most creative outlet, nor my most important one.
12] Which is your preferred writing/creative style?
Blathering. Definitely blathering is the way for me to go. I stink at fiction, am horrid at poetry…I just blather. Or Rant. I am a pretty good ranter as well.
13] What is the best thing about blogging in your eyes?
The other bloggers would be number one..the fact that my son reads my junk is number two.
14] What prompts you to write about a topic on the day that you post?
I’m either angry enough to vent and rant, or in a silly enough mood to blather. Or someone created a challenge that caught my attention.
15] What advice would you award new bloggers to help and encourage them promote their blog and engage with their audience?
For heaven’s sake, write about what you know. There’s nothing worse for a reader than to find a post they think will be interesting, only to discover the person writing has no clue what they are talking about…don’t have a fashion blog if your taste is so poor that even your mom is embarrassed by your style. Read other people’s work and leave comments on it. It’s nice to get all those “likes” but an honest comment on someone’s work means far more.
16] Do you have an overall blogging strategy or simply write because you enjoy writing?
Oh goodness no. I write when I write because I want to write something.
17] Do you feel it is important to have an engaging audience to the content that you write?
Important to what exactly? Important to the blog? no. Important to my feelings about the blog? Probably. I love the people engaging in comments. Do they change anything about the way I write or what I write about? No.
18] If no one ever commented on your blog would this concern you, and if so how would you rectify the situation?
Nope. It wouldn’t actually. On my first blog no one ever commented. I do mean ever. On Suziland (my second) I had over 3K followers and at least 700 0f them would comment all the time. It got distracting actually. I would be so busy answering their comments that I would fail to post every day…or even every week. Really the whole point of my blog is to be as honest as I can be about who I am, what I feel and think so my son really knows who his mom is. Everyone else is just icing on this little cake of mine.
19] How long from start to finish would/can your content take you to complete?
Anywhere from 5 minutes to several weeks. It depends on what I am doing.
20] Which do you think are your best 3 posts to date? Please link below so that our readers can see your style and take a step into your world.
Ever? Oh that is hard.
21] Finally, what advice would you offer new writers to the blogging community?
Be honest. Do not take other people’s words or photos without saying who they belong to…or having permission to use them. Write about what you know. Don’t worry about statistics..they are just numbers and don’t really mean anything in the long run. Most of all, enjoy what you are doing. If it ever becomes a Pain, give it up and find something else to do.
My sincere thanks to Suze for taking the time to answers the questions posed to her by Truly Inspired. I am impressed with Suze and her honesty with regards the dyslexia and dysgraphia. I also have these, my dyslexia is mild and l can auto correct that as l go along, however my dysgraphia is absolutely horrible. I was grateful for my writing to be seen with either a typewriter or a keyboard and not my hand, because l can almost guarantee that if you saw my handwriting, you wouldn’t have a clue what l am actually saying to you.
Suze is spot on with regards her information concerning new bloggers and that is to 1] know what you are writing about, by having an idea of the direction you want to follow but also more importantly write about something you are passionate and knowledgeable on and 2] to not worry about the statistic side to the blogging experience as that will come both in time and more so when you realise the direction you wish to walk, but also 3] interacting and engaging with your community and if needs be any of the prompts you see here in WP during your travels.
If as of yet you are not familiar with Suze or her written work, please do make and the take the time to visit her blog and check her out.
