I have always been known to take certain phrases quite literally at times, sometimes it makes me appear to be a complete and utter dunce, whilst at other times a fool who is pranking. I clearly remember a time when l was about 13 and my doctor told to hop over to the examination bed, and upon seeing me ‘actually hop’ asked what on earth l was doing? I answered you told me to hop! He said l was being a fool but it was very funny!

Of course when l was 44/45 l was diagnosed with Aspergers and learned a lot of answers to unasked questions, and one of the newly appointed traits or behaviours was my ability to take things literally, which draws me to the Random Quotes today which l am going to dedicate to my friend Fandango of This, That and The Other because of a comment he received from Li of Tao Talk yesterday which was making reference to his own Attitude which ironically was also connected to me again because of the 321 Quote Me – Attitude

In addition to that l am also going to dedicate this back to Li of Tao Talk because she kindly tagged me at my own game 321 Quote Me ~ Attitude  … confused much yet?

Attitude! – If you have got it flaunt it! Is my credo!

My Father and l had a conversation once when l was around 11, he said “You need to watch that attitude of yours Rory!!” And for a whole day l found myself in an absolute conundrum of how on earth l could ‘actually watch my attitude?’ When he discovered what l had done, he thought l was being funny with him and lazy and so he gave me a hiding for my ‘poor attitude which he had told me to watch !”

There is no winning l thought – You have to look out for your attitude, because it is either poor or in dire need of watching? How does one figure that out at 11? I never did, and from that point on however over the years, many people have told me l have a great attitude , a positive attitude, a negative attitude and a volatile attitude – okay, the best l can come up with at nearly 56, and so 45 years on as a solution to my father’s statement of watching my attitude is this … l would rather have an attitude than simply accepting what everyone else blindly accepts as the norm – people need to possess an attitude,  and something else  … what is it really? What does it boil down to?

Simply put in layman terms it means you have an established way of thinking about things and further more you can think for yourself – well l have a strong minded attitude as do many of you today reading this, and as both do Fandango and Li alike and trust me, when l say that is the best way to think and be and why?

Because at least you are thinking For Yourself!!

Rory Matier

So in traditional 321 Quote Me style, l will now play on … my two quotes concerning this wonderful topic are …

“Be an independent thinker at all times, and ignore anyone who attempts to define you in a limiting way.”

Sherry Argov

***

“Could we change our attitude, we should not only see life differently, but life itself would come to be different. Life would undergo a change of appearance because we ourselves had undergone a change of attitude.”

Katherine Mansfield

Gary of Bereaved Single Dad

Lady D of 3C Style

Carol Anne of Therapy Bits

Whom all have remarkable attitudes even if sometimes they doubt themselves.

  1. You don’t get symbolic language and idiomatic expressions? Each language is plum full of them. I’ve been driving people plum loco with them all throughout me lifetime. When I was a youngun my parents used to tell me to look up and down before I crossed the street, so I spent my formative years in a state of total and abject terror of things like exploding manhole covers and out of control planes.

  2. Rory, thanks for featuring me in your essay, and thank you for your attitude, which is appreciated as passionate and dedicated to staying on the up side. <3 <3 <3
