Ziggy with pumpkin toy & Pudge watching the back!
A] Personal Details
1] Your Name?
There are two of us, Pudge (formerly known as Scooby) and Ziggy (formerly known as Scrappy). Those names didn’t fit us in our new mom’s opinion, so she named us Pudge and Ziggy. Plus we heard there was a “Scrappy” that lived in another house across something called a big pond. Ziggy didn’t want to impose!
2] What do you call your 2-leggeds?
We haven’t named her yet. We’ve only been a family since about March 17th.
3] What K9 Breed are you?
I, Pudge (spokes dog) am a mix of who knows what. I am supposed to be ‘part Chihuahua’ but I think our ‘mom’ doubts it. Ziggy is something called a Manchester terrier. No, he doesn’t have any soccer affiliation…
4] How Old Are You?
I, Pudge, am nine years old and a bit, my pal Ziggy is a little over one year old.
5] Do you live inside or outside and more importantly – do you run your household?
We live inside, but enjoy being outside, which is how we became lost and now live in a new house. There are some scents in our new house of a different dog, but she hasn’t been seen. And if you mention her, our mom gets kind of upset. We’re working on that.
6] Where abouts in the world do you live?
Brigham City, Utah – in the United States of America
B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring
7] How often do you take your 2 leggeds for a walk?
As often as we can get her to go outside. It’s not that often, and I, Pudge, understand because I’m also pretty lame. But I love my walks!! Ziggy loves his as well and we encourage walks every single day.
8] Do you do lots of adventuring when out and about?
No. I think our new human is afraid we’ll run away and get lost again, and I couldn’t stand that. Once in a lifetime is enough!
9] Do your 2 leggeds allow you to talk to other K9’s on your walks or do they huff and puff behind you and urge you to hurry along?
We aren’t really very friendly to other canines, and it’s rumoured that we LOVE to chase cats, so we don’t socialize all that much. A dog named Taco came to visit us the first day we came to our new house and we were pretty mean to him, barking and being aggressive. He’s an old doggie – 14+ years, and I suspect our new human didn’t like how we acted because she put us outside and used her ‘mad’ voice at us.
10] Are you allowed to do ‘stuff’ on your walks freely? Do you walk off or on lead?
We are allowed to do our business, but our human takes a baggie in case we leave some unwanted piles behind. So far, we’ve peed on everything, but no poopin’. We like to do that business in private…and have been scolded for doing it a couple of times in the house. Our new human yells and calls us ‘bad boys’ (Ziggy gets blamed, but I think it’s known that I’m the culprit. Hey! Pay attention or reap the unsavoury benefit, sez I!) We walk on leads because of the getting lost problem.
11] Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?
No. We’re not there yet, but I’m sure given time she’ll do it. So far we’re both just glad to be ‘home’ and not in a cage where lots of people came to stare at us and where there were no soft beds to sleep on.
12] Do your 2 leggeds expect you to fetch the ball/toy every time during soft/hard play?
No. But she will toss the toy (my favorite is the sheepskin man, Ziggy’s is the pumpkin squeaky toy), and then take it away while we growl and pretend to bite the toy. She seems to like throwing it for us to fetch, but we don’t respond to ‘fetch’, although we do ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ pretty well.
13] Do you have favourite toys and if so, what are they?
Sheepskin man for me and the squeaky fox or the pumpkin for Ziggy.
That pumpkin is Ziggy’s toy. I try to grab it, but he’s younger and faster and I tire a lot more easily. Eh. Kids. What are you going to do??
My toy is the sheepskin man. The first time I brought it to our new mom, she started to cry. It smells like that other dog and I think it made her sad. But it’s fun to chew on and mostly now she doesn’t cry when I play with him.
14] Are you a very much loved K9’s?
Yes and firmly yes from both of us. We’re beginning to make ourselves at home too!
15] Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them?
Not so far, but we have had a few rides in the car.
16] Are you given treats? What are your favourites?
My favorite is ‘food’. Ziggy likes all foods too, but some give him wickedly stinky gas. I don’t think it smells that bad, but our mom always gets a funny look on her face and puts him outside for a while. Sometimes he doesn’t like that.
She took us to that bad place that smells funny and Ziggy had to stay all day. Because he’s my best bud, I stayed too. He was taken away for a while and when he came back, he smelled really strange and he had a sore place at the back end. He confided to me that they took his boy parts. I lost mine a long time ago and so I told him it would be okay. I don’t think he was convinced though.
But one thing they told our new mom is that we were both overweight. Which leads to the next question:
17] Are you fed a nutritional diet and is your food moist or dry or both or even the raw meat diet?
We get kibble only. And only a half cup (each) twice a day. Ziggy is really good at begging though, he can sit up on his haunches and waves his paws and makes a whining noise if ignored, so we get some table scraps too. Shhhhh! I don’t think that man in the bad place would like it if he knew.
18] Are you allowed to sample your 2 leggeds food?
Yep. See that question in the middle there.
D] Your Personal K9 Stuff
19] Do you have a favourite piece of 2 legged clothing and if so, do they know?
Making it our home.
No. But we have a blanket that we both share which we’ve claimed. Our mom doesn’t let us in the room where her clothes live though.
20] Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?
No. We’ve been in a cage in a really bad place called a pound, and we never EVER want to go back.
21] Do you have a bed or a favourite sleeping place?
Yes, next to our mom on the reclining couch that she sleeps on. We take it in turns who gets to sleep next to her. Sometimes though I like to just go sleep on the fancy couch in the other room. Alone.
22] Are you always with your 2-leggeds or do you sometimes need ‘Time out?’
As mentioned above, we’ve gotten time outs, especially if I leave a present for mom that she doesn’t fully appreciate OR the time when we were mean to Taco.
23] Do your 2 leggeds make you ‘dress up?’ If so, when or what for and do you enjoy it?
Certainly NOT! I’m too dignified for such foolishness and Ziggy is not willing.
24] Are you photogenic or make them run after you to capture you on film?
We’re very photogenic and cute and our mom tends to take pictures when we aren’t looking.
Me trying to teach Ziggy about the benefits of ‘sharing’…
… why should l share what’s mine Pudge, you have the funny looking woolly man!
25] Do you have a friendly vet?
No. We both really dislike the vet. Because they cut dog’s (and cats) dangly bits off when one isn’t looking!
26] What would be your pawfect day?
It’s happening every day since we got rescued from that pound place. We have our own food bowls, plenty of water, a big yard to play in and walkies when it’s good weather. Plus there are treats and toys and a soft place to sleep. What more could a dog ask for really?
Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …
Ziggy here. I wanted to tell our tail of how we came to live in a new place. We were caught by a person who put us in a cage in the back of a truck and took us to a building where there were lots and lots of other animals – dogs and cats. Everyone seemed pretty unhappy there and were making lots of noise. Most everyone else there was a big dog, we didn’t get to see the cats, but we could smell them!! The people at this place, which I heard them call a ‘pound’, said since we were found together, we needed to be adopted together. And we both got upset when they tried to separate us for a while. No thank you! A young dog (me) needs an older dog (Pudge) to show him the ropes so to speak. A lot of people came to see us and one family with two little girls wanted to take us home, but our new mom got there first. The adoption rules said ‘no small children’, I think in deference to Pudge’s advanced age, but also because I’m really hyperactive and might have nipped a child who was too touchy feely.
We took a very long ride in the car, and both of us tried to get on our new mom’s lap while she was driving. She had to scold us and tell us to ‘sit’, which doesn’t make sense in the car, the car takes you new places where there are lots of new smells.
When we got to our new house, we sniffed everywhere. We could smell another dog, but we didn’t see her anywhere. Our new mom let us out into the backyard and we spent a long time checking the parameter and leaving lots of ‘marks’ so other dogs would know it was our yard.
Then a lady came to the door and we both barked and barked. She had a really old dog with her and he told us that the dog we smelled in our new house was named Huny and she had gone to Rainbow Bridge. That our new mom was sad without her and to be patient because it might be a while before Huny could move on. I think Huny has finally done that because our mom doesn’t cry as much as she did when we first came to this house.
We’re slowly training our new mom about important things like meal times and play and walks. I think it’s good for her. She is starting to relax too, because at first she would watch us all the time.
It’s good to be in my forever home with my best friend Pudge.
Plus l am pretty sure you know this already, but just in case you don’t our new Mom is Melanie of Sparksfromacombustiblemind
My special thanks toZiggy, Pudge and of course Mom Melanie for taking the time out to paw up this wonderful interview! Well boys you have certainly landed on your paws firmly and solidly with your new home. You no longer have to be apart from each other, or alone in the big wide and wild world and to boot you have a great Mom looking out for you. I reckon noy only are you all family now, but it wasn’t just a case of your Mom rescuing you, but you also rescuing your Mom – so from my point of view, dad’s as well and all the good folks reading this interview, this is a huge win win.
