Sandy & Danny – Grease – 1978

Personal Choice

Grease is a 1978 American musical romantic comedy film based on the 1971 musical of the same name by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Written by Bronte Woodard and directed by Randal Kleiser in his theatrical feature film debut, the film depicts the lives of greaser Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson who develop an attraction for each other. The film stars John Travolta as Danny, Olivia Newton-John as Sandy, and Stockard Channing as Betty Rizzo, a member of the Pink Ladies.

Released on June 16, 1978, Grease was successful both critically and commercially. Its soundtrack album ended 1978 as the second-best selling album of the year in the United States, behind the soundtrack of the 1977 blockbuster Saturday Night Fever; also starred by Travolta, and earned the film its lone Oscar nomination for “Hopelessly Devoted to You” (which lost the Academy Award for Best Original Song to Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” from Thank God It’s Friday at the 51st Academy Awards).

A sequel, Grease 2, was released in 1982, starring Maxwell Caulfield and Michelle Pfeiffer as a newer class of greasers. Few of the original cast members reprised their roles.

3 – Born To Hand Jive

4 – Rock n’ Roll is here to stay

5 – You’re the One That I Want

  1. I love Grease! I’ve seen it maybe 20 times. All the songs are great ~ Greased Lightning is hilarious. I consider it a bit of a genre parody more than a true romcom, since the cast is so obviously older than HS age. But I adore parodies, so that’s fine! Grease 2 was totally meh, even though I generally love Michelle.

    1. Hey Paula, yeah they tried to hard to recreate the success of the first model with the second film, l think Michelle is great as well. But they made the same mistake with the second Dirty Dancing.

    1. Hey Beckie, it’s inconic and cult to so many people 🙂

Many thanks, l will hop over and check it out and hope to attend to it this weekend – thank you 🙂

      1. I played Rizzo in my high school play. I loved her part! Ah, if I could turn back the handof time to sing again on stage.
Eh… Too much of a nervous wreck to do that anymore. LOL! 😊
Take your time, Rory! No rush.

  2. I loved that movie when I was a kid and I still love it as an adult. Though, I’ll confess, I’ve never seen the second movie. I can’t really pick a favorite song, so I’ll cheat and say that I like all of them.
