Feline Katz Interview Form

A] Personal Details

Your Name?

“My name is Sophie Anne. I was named for a queen, which is very fitting. My primary human servant also calls me “Sweet Baby Kitty”, which I allow.”

Your 2 Leggeds Names?

“Like the Big Dumb Dog, Zeus, I live with Grandma, Mom, Auntie, Auntie’s partner and Ben (I won’t call him King Ben. There’s only room for one monarch in this house, and that’s obviously me.)”

Are you a specific feline breed or just your ordinary Moggie?

“I am a Tortie. It’s not a specific breed, but a very special coloration. We Torties are said to have attitude. Huh! I have no idea what the silly humans are taking about.”

How old Are You?

“I am 9 years old.”

Do you run your household? If yes ….. how?

“Well I ‘used’ to run the house until that Big Dumb Zeus moved in. He chases me every time he sees me. I stay outside when he’s awake. I lay in the sun, chase birds and mice, nap under a tree…

After Zeus goes to bed, I come inside to be with my primary human, Grandma. I tell her about my day (she seems to understand my meows well for a human) and demand my treats and love.”

Do you live in the house, or outside or ‘Meh’ “I live where l want!”

“It’s mostly outside but that’s okay. I prefer to go where I want to in our yard. Sometimes, I’d rather be inside but Zeus just won’t stop chasing after me. Even when he’s scolded. He really IS a dumb dog!!”

Where abouts in the world do you live?

“I live in southern California, United States.”

B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring

Are you an outdoorsy type of Kat, or exclusively indoor comfortable?

“Oh definitely outdoorsy. I was born outside. My mama didn’t have a home or humans.”

What type of exercise to take part in?

“I climb to the roof of the house or the shed or the trees. I chase after birds, bugs and mice. Sometimes, I have to chase other Katz away. This is my area, they were not invited and are unwelcome.”

When out and about are you an intrepid explorer and love to go walkabout or do you prefer to stay within your home territory?

“I stay pretty close to home. There are busy streets with lots of cars near my house. It’s very dangerous. Besides, there is plenty to explore in my own back yard, side yard and front yard.”

Do your 2 leggeds play with you?

“If I want them to they will. I’m not the sort to bat at feathers or other silly toys.”

Do you do any ‘typical’ Katty things that you enjoy, but maybe your 2 leggeds don’t?

“They don’t like it when I sharpen my claws on the furniture. They tell me I have trees and posts outside, I should use those. Hhmmph! I don’t always WANT to use those. The couch is more convenient.”

“Auntie gets very upset if I leave a dead mouse lying about. She’s squeamish or something. She makes someone else pick it up, then she tells me to take them outside when I kill them. No thanks for killing the mouse, just scolding…”

Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?

“No. They are properly trained.”

Do your 2 leggeds allow you to bring home any goodies from the outside that maybe you have hunted?

“Grandma and Mom praise me as is my due. Auntie just scolds!”

Do you have favourite toys and if so what are they?

“Toys are for children, kittens and dumb dogs named Zeus. No, I don’t have toys.”

Are you allow to freely scratch inside the house?

“No. I’m not ‘allowed’, but that doesn’t stop me.”

Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them or do you have to stay with friends or within a ‘Cattery?’

“They don’t really go anywhere. A few times they had someone stay at the house for a few days to make sure I had my food and water. That was before Zeus moved in.”

C] Eating/Food/Treats

Are you given treats? Too few or just right? What are your favourites?

“Every night when I come in Grandma gives me treats. She calls it “Kitty Cat Crack” and tells me I’m addicted. I don’t have the slightest idea what she is talking about.”

Are you fed a nutritional diet? What type of diet is it?

“I have my bowl of dry kibble.”

Do you enjoy it or is it boring?

“It’s good enough …. it does the job, you know?”

Do you eat it every day, or sometimes refuse to?

“Oh no, I never refuse to eat.”

D] Your Personal Feline Katz Stuff

Are you a vocal Kat or quiet and unamused?

“I am very vocal. I expect my demands to be met.”

Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?

“That’s silly. Something the dog would do.”

Do you have a bed of your own or simply share everyone’s?

“I sleep wherever I want to. At night I perch on top of Grandma while she’s lying down.”

Are you an early riser, or a late napper? Are you in early of an evening or a dirty stop-out?

“I sleep when I want to and wake when I want to.”

“How much alone time or ‘just you’ time do you have?”

“I have plenty of alone time. During the day, when the dumb dog is awake and in the house, I am outside sleeping or hunting or exploring on my own. I might let one of the neighborhood Katz come visit. If they ask respectfully.”

Are you into the whole affection thing at all, or is it on your terms only?

“At night, when I come in, after I’ve had my treats, I expect quite a bit of affection. I want to be petted, have my chin scratched and the top of my head rubbed. It’s Grandma’s duty to pet me until I’m satisfied. If she tries to read, I’ll get in front of her book. If she tries to stop, I grab her hand with my paws and rub my face against it.  Sometimes, I have to use my claws a bit if she is slow to respond.”

Do you like being hugged, belly tickled and so on?

“OH MY – No, no, no, no, NO!!”

Do your 2 leggeds make you dress up?

“They wouldn’t dare.”

Do you tolerate photos or do you like posing for them?

“I’ve allowed a few photos. Usually they sneak up on me when I’m asleep. Very rude, if you ask me.”

Do you have a friendly vet?

“I see the same vet as Zeus. They are very nice there. They coo and pet me and tell me how beautiful I am. I don’t like to go though. I don’t like shots and I don’t like to ride in the car.”

Do your 2 leggeds talk to you in meow and does it really make any sense?

“Grandma is actually pretty good at meow. She gets some things wrong, but she does try.”

Do you share the household with other companions, perhaps a K9 or ‘’other’’ species? If so what are the others, or indeed the K9’s name?

“As I said, I share the house with Zeus. I believe you’ve already interviewed him.”

“Auntie and her partner also have a Bearded Dragon and a Corn Snake but they’re not out much.”

Do you get on well with the others, or simply tolerate their presence?

“If Zeus would quit chasing after me I might consider tolerating him. When I was a kitten and first joined my family, there was a K9 named Lucky that lived with them. He never chased me and we got along great. Lucky was very old and passed away 3 years ago. For a while I was the only 4legged in the house.”

Do your 2 leggeds insist on bathing you or do you simply say NO?

“Bathing? In water? You’re joking, right?! Is that actually a real question?? I’m quite capable of grooming myself.”

What would be your purrfect day?

“Most days are purrfect. The only thing that would make it better would be for Zeus to leave me alone so I could roam around the house during the day if I felt like it.”

Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …

“My family rescued me when I was a very little kitten. I was living with my mother and brothers and sisters in an electrical box outside an appartment building. Mom and Auntie walked by and saw a few of us outside the box (we were exploring) and came closer for a better look. My mother and all my siblings ran away and left me. I was trying to get back in the box at the time. Auntie and Mom walked back by on their way home, to check on me, make sure my mother came back, but she didn’t. I was all alone so Mom and Auntie brought me home with them. I’ve been part of the family ever since that day.

“Another thing about me is, I’m very affectionate to the humans I love. I like to show my love by licking them. Sometimes on the nose or chin, sometimes on the hand or arm. Every once in a while I’ll climb up on Grandma’s chest while she’s sleeping and lick her face until she wakes up. I don’t know why she gets grumpy, I’m just showing my love.”

Scrappy’s Thanks

My special thanks to Sophie Anna aka Sweet Baby Kitty and Grandma for taking the time to pawticipate in our feline katz interview and share with us all the regal goings on of a royal tortie.

Dad says when he was young, and l find that hard to imagine however, he said he also had a tortie by the name of Jasmine, and also, and this one l do remember was he had another partial tortie by the name of Jazzy who lived with us until 2009 when she had to go and live somewhere else, as dad wasn’t allowed to have his katz with him in the caravan. I didn’t miss her, but dad did.

Anyway, mm Sohie you do seem to have a bit of a social struggle with ol’ Zeus, but l can see and indeed read that despite everything you have a really great life.

Don’t forget to check out Sophie Anne’s Grandma’s blog – King Ben’s Grandma.

Thank you once again for completing our questionnaire.

If you are interested in purrticipaing please email me at doodlepip03@gmail.com and l will email you back with the questionnaire.

Thank you so much!

Scrappy Doodlepip and the Just Bloke Guy Aka Dad!
