“Sally Rose (Maid) Glenn (Butler)”
Are you a specific feline breed or just your ordinary Moggie?
“A good looking moggie.”
How old Are You?
“A young 15.”
Do you run your household? If yes ….. how?
“Yes of course because I am the male and therefore superior.”
Do you live in the house, or outside or ‘Meh’ “I live where l want!”
“I live inside of course but have a large area to patrol.”
Where abouts in the world do you live?
“Portugal – on a vineyard near Sintra.”
B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring
Are you an outdoorsy type of Kat, or exclusively indoor comfortable?
“Both as dependent on the weather.”
What type of exercise to take part in?
My Sister, Pansy, being shy.
“Irritating vineyard dogs, chasing Sister and new Sister and her kids.”
When out and about are you an intrepid explorer and love to go walkabout or do you prefer to stay within your home territory?
“I am in control of my area and master of my range, but occasionally have to defend against common farm cats.”
Do your 2 leggeds play with you?
Do you do any ‘typical’ Katty things that you enjoy, but maybe your 2 leggeds don’t?
“Oh yes! They are not keen on my singing at 3.00am – one has to practise one scales though.”
Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?
” [Sigh] Over enthusiastic kissing and cuddling when one is attempting to be dignified.”
Do your 2 leggeds allow you to bring home any goodies from the outside that maybe you have hunted?
“Yee’es but were not impressed with large lizard I dragged onto patio in my first week living here. They rescued it. They also rescued my pet toad who I have not seen since which I am still very sad about!!”
Do you have favourite toys and if so what are they?
“Geckos! And of course chasing my Sister is the best toy ever but not in her eyes … not sure why actually?”
Are you allow to freely scratch inside the house?
“Not really but they have provided a rough tug we are allowed to freely scratch and in my Sister’s case, spew on occasionally – tee hee!!”
Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them or do you have to stay with friends or within a ‘Cattery?’
“When we were small and living in a flat, we had someone to come and feed us. Next time, when we had moved, our Auntie Wendy from England came and stayed with us. They never go away now as happy to stay under our paw.”
Are you given treats? Too few or just right? What are your favourites?
“Dreamies, which are not called that here but Catisfaction. Occasional bit of smoked salmon or ham or tuna.”
Are you fed a nutritional diet? What type of diet is it?
“We have dried special biscuits cos Sister Pansy has kidney problems but we also have Sheba and Felix as a treat at tea time.”
Do you enjoy it or is it boring? Not too bad.
“We spew if we really dislike something and Maid has to go to pet shop and find something new lol!”
Do you eat it every day, or sometimes refuse to?
“Dried stuff is ok and other stuff works – if we don’t like it we walk away or spew – always works a treat!”
D] Your Personal Feline Katz Stuff
Are you a vocal Kat or quiet and unamused?
“I have been told I am ‘gobby’ whatever that means. I do a ‘mean’ purr though.
Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?
“I have ‘selective deafness’ apparently. Incurable….”
Do you have a bed of your own or simply share everyone’s?
“In summer I annoy staff by sleeping with them and making them dead hot. In winter I swop with my Sister and have the sofa. Now we have three more, goodness knows where we will all sleep but we have two baskets, a villa, an armchair, a sofa and a bed to choose from.”
Are you an early riser, or a late napper? Are you in early of an evening or a dirty stop-out?
“6.00am works for me and 7.00am in winter. Usually in by 7.00 in winter and a bit later in summer depending on weather and what is happening around the vineyard.”
How much alone time or ‘just you’ time do you have?
“As much as I need actually,as I have various quiet spots around the house, garden and vineyard.”
Are you into the whole affection thing at all, or is it on your terms only?
“I am rather partial to itand do love my special cuddling time at night watching TV and first thing in the morning after I have had my early tour of inspection.”
Do you like being hugged, belly tickled and so on?
“Absolutely, All of them!”
Do your 2 leggeds make you dress up?
“No bloody way. Stupid stuff. Very embarrassing and not suitable for felines!”
Do you actually enjoy it or simply tolerate it because it appears to please them?
“Pity cats in dress up – so uncool – know what l mean?”
Do you tolerate photos or do you like posing for them?
“I do not mind as long as nothing too racy.”
Do you have a friendly vet?
“Yes he is very nice actually, and when he visits the dogs on the vineyard he often pops in to say hello to us. Quite charming.”
Do your 2 leggeds talk to you in meow and does it really make any sense?
“No they use normal English or occasional Portuguese. Neither my Sister or I like meow.”
Do you share the household with other companions, perhaps a K9 or ‘’other’’ species? If so what are the others, or indeed the K9’s name?
“Podge, Tuppence with white paws, and Thrupence with the black nose.”
“Until recently we shared the vineyard with a large Alentejo Rafeiro called Sado but I am very sad to say that he went over the rainbow bridge three weeks ago and we had a very respectful friendship. He was a wonderful guard dog to all of us. At present we are left with his brother, Pinhao the Labrador – need I say more except he is so scared of us it is funny to wind him up. At present his cousin, a Labrador plus something like a basset judging by his legs and paws, Miles, is staying and he is seriously stupid and scared of me.”
“In September a cheeky cat started to steal our food and then made her way into affections of staff. Moved in properly, apart from a couple of nights missing, from October and then, shockingly, had 2 kittens in February who are also part of house now.
Still trying to get them in order. Names are Penny (Podge) Pitstop, the Mother and Tuppence and Thrupence the kittens.”
Do you get on well with the others, or simply tolerate their presence?
“I do my best, one just does what one can, l am sure you understand.”
Do your 2 leggeds insist on bathing you or do you simply say NO?
“Good grief. No, No way!”
What would be your purrfect day?
“Morning on the sunlounger, and any sun puddle available, followed by afternoon in sun puddle around the vineyard, patio, garden, followed by evening meal, a quick inspection of vineyard and bed.”
Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …
“Butler plays guitar and used to run a pub in Derbyshire. Maid worked in television in Manchester.”
Maybe you have a Blog like me, or run your own website, or … even social media, like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram?
“Not at present but thinking of it as Maid has been posting Kitten Updates/Bulletins on Facebook for her followers.”
“Although you can catch the occasaional snippet of me here …. Pompey Bum.”
My special thanks toPompey Bum, and his Sister’s – Pansy and Podge, and her kids Thrupence and Tuppence, and of course Maid Sally Rose and Butler Glenn, for taking the time out to allow this interview to be held.
I have to be honest with you Pompey, you sound like a purrfect gentleman with regards everything you have to put up with from your Sisters and the scallywags. I think l cried and howled with laughter and l know Dad laughed out loud also about the tale of the Toad. Strangely enough, l used to have a pet frog, and that too has disappeared, and yet on occasion, l hear him talking to it outside? Which is most odd!
Thank you once again for completing our kuestionnaire.
