A] Personal Details
1] Your Name?
Grace, but my 2-leggeds call me Gracie May, Booter or Maydles
2] What do you call your 2-leggeds?
I call them Mommy, Dadyee and Ryan
3] What K9 Breed are you?
I am a heritage long haired German Shepherd.
4] How Old Are You?
I turned 11 years old last January 2019.
5] Do you live inside or outside and more importantly – do you run your household?
I live inside the house, but I’m a good doggie, I don’t run the house, I know my place. 🙂
6] Where abouts in the world do you live?
I live in Maryland, USA
B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring
7] How often do you take your 2 leggeds for a walk?
My 2-leggeds take me for a walk twice a day. When mommy used to work full time, I had a dog walker named Sonya who would come three times a week. I LOVED IT! She would play ball with me and take me for long walks and let me run off leash sometimes. That was until I chased after deer once and then I had to remain on the leash after that. Mom is retired and now only works part time a few hours a week and Sonya moved to another state. I miss her!
8] Do you do lots of adventuring when out and about?
Now that I’m older, I don’t do much adventuring. I’m pretty slow and my 2-leggeds take me on shorter strolls now.
9] Do your 2 leggeds allow you to talk to other K9’s on your walks or do they huff and puff behind you and urge you to hurry along?
My 2-leggeds don’t let me socialize with other dogs on our walks and I’m fine with that. I don’t like other dogs, they annoy me, always trying to sniff around my woo! How rude!
10] Are you allowed to do ‘stuff’ on your walks freely? Do you walk off or on lead?
I need to be on a lead. I scare people when I’m on my walks. I don’t know why, because I love people but for some reason my size and bark scare them.
11] Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?
My 2-leggeds don’t really embarrass me, but I don’t like it when I see them pick up my poo. I think they should leave it on the ground like other pet owners, but they don’t. I embarrass them when I go to the edge of the curb on the busy side of the street to poo.
12] Do your 2 leggeds expect you to fetch the ball/toy every time during soft/hard play?
My 2-leggeds don’t have to ask me twice to fetch the ball. I wish they would toss it more often! I love it in summer when the pool is open and my dadyee throws me the ball around the pool. I don’t swim though. I only like to lounge by the pool and observe.
13] Do you have favourite toys and if so, what are they?
My favorite toys are tennis balls. I even like to chew on them like bubble gum.
14] Are you a very much loved K9?
My 2-leggeds LOVE ME! They tell others all the time that I’m the best and smartest dog they’ve ever owned. I can tell how much they adore me by the way they look at me and pet me when we are just quiet in the house.
15] Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them?
I don’t go on holiday with my 2-leggeds because they usually fly. However, I get to stay at Sonya’s house so I have my own vacation and I love it!
16] Are you given treats? What are your favourites?
I live for treats! Any kind of treat, the more the better. If I had to choose just one, I would choose peanut butter cookies. YUM!!
17] Are you fed a nutritional diet and is your food moist or dry or both or even the raw meat diet?
I eat the same dry kibbles every day. Don’t they know I’m tired of it by now. I have to wait for my 2-leggeds to give me people scraps before I will eat my kibbles. I eat them as a last resort!
18] Are you allowed to sample your 2 leggeds food?
People food is all I want, most times my 2-leggeds will oblige.
D] Your Personal K9 Stuff
19] Do you have a favourite piece of 2 legged clothing and if so, do they know?
I don’t have any 2-legged clothing, but I do grab my 2-leggeds shoes when they come in the door. I’m just so happy to see them, and I want to say “take off your shoes and sit a spell”.
20] Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?
I don’t play up, but I do lick my paws constantly which annoys my 2-leggeds. I don’t know why they hate it so much, I like the taste of my stinky feet!
21] Do you have a bed or a favourite sleeping place?
I don’t have a bed, I just lay wherever I choose. I’m not allowed on any furniture though and that annoys me. I sometimes sneak up on the couch when they aren’t home.
22] Are you always with your 2-leggeds or do you sometimes need ‘Time out?’
I need time-out from my 2-leggeds because they annoy me when I’m trying to lick my paws and they keep yelling at me to stop. I don’t like thunder storms either and I try to hide in the loft whenever there is storm.
23] Do your 2 leggeds make you ‘dress up?’ If so, when or what for and do you enjoy it?
My 2-leggeds don’t make me dress up, but I used to get ribbons in my fur when I would go to the groomer and I didn’t mind that because I’m a diva dog.
24] Are you photogenic or make them run after you to capture you on film?
I’m very photogenic. I learned a long time ago to just let them take my picture and deal with it. Sonya used to always like to take my picture too!
25] Do you have a friendly vet?
My vet is very friendly, she has pink hair and is very hip and cool! I just don’t like it when they try to hold me when I get my shots. I don’t like the feeling of being held down or smothered. Do they think I’m going to bite them or something? I would never do that, as I said before, I love people.
26] What would be your pawfect day?
My pawfect day these days would be to lounge poolside with my 2-leggeds while chewing on my tennis ball. After dinner going for a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood so I can smell my neighbors cat up the street. The cat is elusive cause I never actually see it, but I can smell it. I know it’s there somewhere!
Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …
Something unique about me is that I’m a heritage breed German Shepherd and I was born with a recessive long hair gene which was more frequent on German Shepherds many years ago. However, through the breeding process, Shepherds lost the gene and were bred with the shorter hair that is common now. I was the only one in my litter with the long hair but i’m beautiful! I have touches of red in my fur and black around my eyes so it looks like I have eye liner on. It annoys me when everyone I meet immediately thinks I’m a boy. Damn! Just because I’m a big dog doesn’t mean I’m a boy.
Also, l want to thank my Mommy for letting me take part in the interview, you can catch her here … Carolyn of Hawkfeather Stories
My special thanks to Grace, Mommy, Dadyee and Ryan for taking the time to pawticipate in my K9 Questionnaire and sharing some nice information about home life in Maryland – that sure is a lot of snow Grace – so good job that you are long haired!
I know what you mean about being mistaken for a boy dog though, it happens to me almost everyday!? I mean l wear a bright pink collar and a bright purple harness, l chose them because they are girlie colours and still l have people say ‘”Oh such a lovely boy!” Dad, even gets a bit annoyed because he says “Scrappy is a girl actually, have you not noticed the absence of tackle?” They answer with “But Scrappy is a boy dogs name?” Dad tells them that actually Scrappy is a cartoon name after Scooby Doo’s cousins, to which point they then say “Who was a boy!” Dad then says, it doesn’t matter, she was a mischief puppy, and originally called Scrapster, but to soften it, l called her Scrappy Doodlepip, but trust me Grace it can be quite infuriating at times!!
Either way, both Dad and l agree, you look absolutely lovely! I also get told off for licking my paws, but then l do it when l ‘am’ trying to get attention, and l know it gets them to react, but they tell me off for continuous licking! I usually lick my paws when l have been told off for huffing!
So once again Grace, thank you so much for taking pawt in the K9 interview – it was great fun!
Way to go Grace, Power to the Bark!
Hope you enjoyed reading … Tootle Pip from Doodlepip!
“If you are interested in pawticipaing please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and l will email you back with the questionnaire.”
Looking pawards to hearing from many, many more!
