K9 Interviews 34 – Maeve

K9 Interviews

K9 Questionnaire

A] Personal Details

1] Your Name?

“Maeve aka Mavis Moo.”

2] Your 2 Leggeds Names?

“Mom and Dad and my favourite Uncle Chris.”

3] What K9 Breed are you?

“Border Collie but I’m also the one and only Irish nosehound.”

4] How Old Are You?

5] Do you run your household?

“But of course.”

6] Do you live inside or outside the house?

“Inside definitely.”

7] Where about in the world do you live?

“Shropshire, UK.”

B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring

Days out

8] How often do you take your 2 leggeds for a walk?

“Usually twice a day, but I insist they play with me in our garden as well. It keeps them active.”

9] Do you vary the walks or trek the same route every day?

“We have a few variations on our usual route. Unless we go out in the car and then the world is my lobster. Figuratively speaking of course.”

10] Do your 2 leggeds allow you to talk to other K9’s on your walks or do they huff and puff behind you and urge you to hurry along?

“I’m a bit picky who I chat to anyway, and being a collie, I usually drop on all fours when I first see another dog. Some owners think I’m going to attack or round up their dog. Of course I’m not….it’s just me sussing the other K9’s out.”

11] Are you allowed to do ‘stuff’ on your walks freely?

“My favourite off lead activity is ball play and sniffing and then more sniffing. I just love a good roll on fragrant fox poo but that only results in dog wipes and maybe a bath. So I try to contain myself!”

12] Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?

“Too many times sadly. Mom has a habit of singing to me…she has no shame (nor the ability to sing in tune…)”

13] Do your 2 leggeds expect you to fetch the ball/toy every time during soft/hard play?

Hiding the ball

“Golly, l simply don’t know where the ball is?”

“I usually do, so I guess I exceed their expectations. But sometimes part of the game is for them to throw a toy or ball, I pretend not to be able to find it even though I know exactly where it is. That makes them get up and throw it again. Keeps them on their toes!!”

*          Do you have favourite toys and if so what are they?

Favourite toys

“I have lots of toys in my toy box and tend to favour a ‘toy of the moment’. I’m quite fickle but currently my toy of choice is my honking pheasant.”

Garden play

14] Are you loved every day?

“Absolutely. My humans are totally under my spell. I am a rescue collie from Ireland and have magic powers.”

Fussed over? “Without a doubt.”

Tickled? “Only behind my ears…my favourite spot.”

Cuddled? “I’m not big on cuddles.”

Played with? “Often.”

Made to feel special? ” Oh yes, always.”

15] Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them?

“Always. They wouldn’t go anywhere that I couldn’t go too. We are family.”

16] Do you get to pick where you go if they do?

Holiday choices

“They know what I like (a garden with a wall so I can push my ball over it)….I have very simple tastes.”

C] Eating/Food/Treats

“Oh yeah, treats for me, yeah!!”

17] Are you given treats? Too few or just right? What are your favourites?

Treats also

“Mom would say just right but I’m a dog….you can never have too many treats. My favourites are from Wellybix. Mom orders a kit and hand makes them for me. How cool is that?”

18] Are you fed a nutritional diet?

19] Is your food moist or dry or both or even the raw meat diet?

“I have a mix of Burns dry for sensitive tums and a scoop of Hills gastro moist. Plus mixed vegetables and a sprinkle of bran.”

20] Do you enjoy it or is it boring?

“I love it.”

21] Do you eat it every day, or sometimes refuse to?

“I never refuse food …. except lettuce and celery … that gets spat out on the floor where it belongs!”

22] Are you allowed to sample your 2 leggeds food?

“Yes, but not as often as I would like. Although I do get a sausage all of my own on a Sunday. Nom nom nom!”

23] Do you eat your food when you are expected to, or when you wish to?

“My dish is put down and I’m in!”

D] Your Personal K9 Stuff

24] Do you have a favourite piece of 2 legged clothing and if so, do they know?

“No not really. I find human belongings quite boring. I have my own wardrobe of collars and bandanas made by my Aunty Carol from #fluffytailsfashions

25] Go on be a Devil – tell us what it is ….?

“Honestly…no I don’t !!”

26] Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?

Stalking pigeons

“I like to monitor our garden and keep it free from cats and pigeons. That involves a lot of very loud barking and jumping up and down which can be annoying but I consider it to be my contribution to good housekeeping.”

27] Do you have a bed?

“Oh yes, more than one in fact.”

28] If so, do you sleep in your bed, or their bed, or the couch or all three and more?

The big bed

“It depends. I have a day bed where I’ll go for a snooze and to relax after my evening meal. My night bed is in their bedroom. I’ll sleep most of the night in it, but I join them on the big bed for the last hour before we wake up properly. I think they like that.”

29] How much alone time or ‘just you’ time do you have?

“I’m only rarely home alone but I’m free to go into my day bed to chill during the day.”

30] Do your 2 leggeds make you dress up?

“Sometimes. They enjoy it more than I do … you know what l mean …”

*          For which holiday or festivity is this applicable?

“It’s only once a year, once a year, tra la la, once a year!”

“Christmas. Mom loves Christmas so she thinks it’s a great excuse to humiliate me on Twitter. Sigh.”

*          Pose for pictures?

8 Months old pup

“I’m quite photogenic so it’s ok. Even as an 8 month old puppy from the Border Collie Trust … l am just gorgeous!”

31] Do you actually enjoy it or simply tolerate it because it appears to please them?

“Mom usually waves a treat over the camera which helps a lot.”

32] Do you have a friendly vet?

“Yes….Aunty Sarah. She’s lovely.”

33] What would be your perfect day?

“A ride to the beach at Ynyslas, Wales. Paddle in the sea. Play on the sand. Picnic with 2 leggeds food then home to my night bed.”

In spite of everything … the manipulations and the training you must subject them to  – are they happy  that you are there to mentor for them?

“They say that the day that they went to the kennels at Border Collie Trust GB in May 2011 was their lucky day as I was there, waiting for them to find me.”

Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …

Last question

“Wheelie bins. If Dad brings the bin down the drive after it’s been emptied I go crazy. And the lawn mower. And don’t start me on the Hoover….I bite it even though Mom says it’s just cleaning up the hairs I leave on the carpet. It’s a dogs life.”

Scrappy’s Thanks

My special thanks to Maeve and her Mum and Dad for pawticipating in our K9 questionnaire – and sharing home life and adventures with us all here. Ah Mavis Moo, we could be related – we share many common traits – especially with the likes of the trespassers the pesky pigeons. The amount of times l see off Pesky Percy is so high, l have lost count!

Once again, my thanks to you all for taking the time to complete the questionnaire and spill the beans on home life in Shropshire.

Don’t forget to check out Maeve’s Twitter found here @maeveydog

Way to go, Power to the Bark!

Hope you enjoyed reading … Tootle Pip from Doodlepip!

“If you are interested in pawticipaing please email me at doodlepip03@gmail.com and l will email you back with the questionnaire.”

You may have noticed that l am currently in the lead of Dad’s Truly Inspired series – woot woof woof woot! Now l know that many of you must have K9’s equally as much as Feline Katz – isn’t it time you let them have their say and take our number to 35!

Looking pawards to hearing from many, many more!
