“The morning walk is the same route but we vary the evening walk.”

10] Do your 2 leggeds allow you to talk to other K9’s on your walks or do they huff and puff behind you and urge you to hurry along?

“I’m a bit of a collie with other dogs! I see a dog and I drop to the ground until they pass. People think I’m tired until I jump up and try to round their dog up . In the park I like to have a sniff but I would rather chase my ball than play.”

11] Are you allowed to do ‘stuff’ on your walks freely?

Off the lead I am given a fair bit of freedom but I’m not allowed to eat stuff or roll in anything smelly.”

12] Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?

“No that’s my job!”

13] Do your 2 leggeds expect you to fetch the ball/toy every time during soft/hard play?

“It’s my favourite thing to do and I insist they throw my toys even when they aren’t in the mood.”

“They choose holidays that allow me to go. They never go on holiday without me.”

16] Do you get to pick where you go if they do?

“I’m happy to go anywhere as long as there is a beach!”

C] Eating/Food/Treats

17] Are you given treats? Too few or just right? What are your favourites?

“I do get treats my favourites are stuff that mum doesn’t allow such as cake and cheese but I rely on dad for those. I’m rather fond of ice cream too.”

“Dad allows me to mum prefers not to she’s always muttering about my weight.”

23] Do you eat your food when you are expected to, or when you wish to?

“I eat my breakfast when it is put down but my evening meal I choose the time. Sometimes I hang on to see if dad has a tasty morsel to add to it.”

D] Your Personal K9 Stuff

24] Do you have a favourite piece of 2 legged clothing and if so, do they know?

“No I don’t.”

26] Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?

“Oh every evening when they settle down to relax! You can’t beat a soggy toy on their knee to get attention! Random barking is also annoying I believe.”

“I sleep on the rug at mums side of the bed or across the bedroom doorway so no one can get past me.”

29] How much alone time or ‘just you’ time do you have?

“Not much there’s usually someone at home to play with. When I was very young and mum and dad were out at work my mums mum used to look after me most of the da.”

30] Do your 2 leggeds make you dress up?

“Mum would like to but I’m not co operative although I did end up with antlers at Christmas.”

“I see the camera and usually turn away from it. They have to be quick to catch me but occasionally I cooperate.”

31] Do you actually enjoy it or simply tolerate it because it appears to please them?

“I don’t like being photographed. Photos mean standing still and I like to be on the move.”

32] Do you have a friendly vet?

“I love my vet he always makes a fuss of me.”

33] What would be your perfect day?

“A lie in, a walk, breakfast then off to the beach for a run and a swim then some ice cream – perfect!”

In spite of everything … the manipulations and the training you must subject them to  – are they happy  that you are there to mentor for them?

“They tell me they wouldn’t want to be without me.”

Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …

Well I’m a bit weird! I have issues with aerosols I go nuts trying to bite the can when mum polishes or sprays air freshener. I don’t bother about deodorants or hair spray though. I do the same when she lights candles I go crazy jumping up and barking. I can sit and stare at a can of polish for ages until its picked up then its crazy time.”

Scrappy’s Thanks

My special thanks to Murphy and his Mum and Dad for pawticipating in our K9 questionnaire – and sharing home life and adventures with us all here. Ah Murphy a K9 after my own heart – no pawparazzi – speak to the paw. Yes my Dad’s got to be quick also if he wants to capture moments of me! It’s the right attitude to possess!

It’s strange, l have a Border collie called Marley live near me, and he too likes to ’round up’, so much so that like you, if he sees another K9 approaching he drops to the floor! The first time he did it, he spooked me something horrible! My vet has told me that l don’t see Border collies properly as is due to my vision, so l see half a dog approach me, then lie down and l am very wary! Then we l stop and let him pass he flies past me at 90 miles an hour! Very spooky indeed, but l see now why – so thank you for explaing it properly to me, l will have to cut Marley some slack!

Ps: Yes l too lurve ice -cream!

Once again, my thanks to you all for taking pawt!

Way to go, Power to the Bark!

Hope you enjoyed reading … Tootle Pip from Doodlepip!

“If you are interested in pawticipaing please email me at doodlepip03@gmail.com and l will email you back with the questionnaire.”

Looking pawards to hearing from many, many more!

    1. Border collies are a lovely breed of dog. Many years ago l was sited on a farm with my business and we had a trio of them. One of them was named ash and she had the most remarkable personality l have ever met in a dog, strikingly intelligent – real thinkers.

      1. Yes absolutely. Always plotting trajectories and planning routes. Like natural whizzes at geometry. It’s awesome. I love watching them work. It’s fascinating.
