Dream Walden – Truly Inspired #12

Truly Inspired Series

1] Blog Name

Dream Walden

2] Genre

I blog about my life, my dream, autism, mental health and the occasional pictures of cats.

3] Blog Age

2 years

3] At what age did you start to write and what was your motivation for doing so?

I think I started writing at school. I have always felt more comfortable to express myself in words. I used to keep a diary when I was a child but I stopped writing when I caught my parents reading it without my permission. Since then, I stopped writing for a long time, which I think was a mistake because I find it much harder to write now having been accustomed to keep my thoughts to myself. I started to write regularly again when I created this blog 2 years ago. My dream is my motivation.

4] Does writing/creativity come naturally to you or do you struggle to invent something inspirational each day/week/month?

I do get a lot of ideas in my head but I tend to struggle with putting ideas into action/words.

5] How prolific are you in your craft?

I try to have at least one new post per week.

6] Are your writings displayed elsewhere or just WordPress? If so where?

Just WordPress.

7] Do you ever suffer from writers/creators block? How do you combat it?

Yes, quite often. Sometimes, it’s a matter of gathering my energy to focus on writing (I’m always feeling tired). Walking, listening to music and reading may also help.

8] What is your preferred creative form?

9] How do you arrive at your decision to write/create/invent about what you have chosen as a subject for the piece/s?

Depends on how intense I feel about something and my mood.

10] Do you need an ambience to work with, such as music, quiet, scented candles, yoga, exercise, reading, film or something else?

Quiet and alone.

11] What helps you to create your content? [people/conversation/family/health/magazines/newspapers/controversy/funny moments/life experiences]

All of the above.

12] Is your content driven by your journey or your story, or by the journeys and stories of others?

I created this blog to be a record of my journey so it is mainly driven by my story although the stories of others can also inspire me.

13] Are there any specific things which enable your creative juices to flow more steadily?

Walking. Nature. Rhythm. Listening to music and wandering off to an imaginary world.

14] How long from start to finish would/can your content take you to complete?

From hours to months. I’m a slow writer!

15] Are you pleased with your finished pieces? How do you feel when you receive acknowledgement from another?

I’m pleased at the time of clicking the “Publish” button. I don’t have much confidence in my writing and myself so to have someone acknowledges it, that feels unreal and thrilling at the same time. Most of all, I’m just thankful that people are even willing to spend the time to read my posts.

Finally, what advice would you award writers or creators looking to express themselves and to then display their works to the world?

Not much of an advice but I often hear people say write for yourself and don’t worry about not having an audience. I absolutely agree and I think it might even be more convincing if that ‘advice’ comes from me lol.

My blog is 2 years old now and I don’t think I have exceeded 60 followers, I don’t really keep a count and I’ve turned off the stats on my dashboard. I am not going to waste my energy comparing myself with the success of others. I wanted a blog to record my journey and I did it.

As I’ve said, I’m just grateful that people are willing to spend the time to read. I’m also deeply humbled and thankful to A Guy Called Bloke for featuring me in this series.

My sincere thanks to Dream Walden for taking the time out to award us her insight and input into what truly inspires her to put pen to paper and then mind to keyboard.  We are each on a journey of not just discovery of ourselves, but equally of those around us. We can see inspiration all around us. That’s the truly intrinsic beauty of what we all do.
