Society breeds normalcy it cannot be helped. People don’t like to be different for fear that they will stand out from the crowd, opening themselves up to victimisation and bullying, or persecution and hostility. It is safe to be running with the herd, instead of the oddball. Even brutal honesty is being different, saying how it is in a black and white world, listened in on by grey ears can be seen as being different.

But being different is not a bad thing, it just means you are honest and brave enough to be yourself. You don’t need the uniform of society to feel safely clothed, you can afford to go naked with your views and your beliefs.

So today being the first day of the rest of our lives, and tomorrow – not being the second – but again the first day of the rest of our lives – treat today as the day to be different.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

This is so very true, each and every one of us is unique to the other. And yet what confuses me daily is the overall negativity from people who only wish to be handled and branded by society. Trading in their uniqueness for sameness – to be like the rest of society – clueless, unseeing, unmoving, unthinking – what the fuck is that all about?

I like to see people who see things differently, who voice their opinions, who don’t jump when society says jump, these are the people who have not traded in their souls to the sheep herders of this world.

  1. And the truth of the matter is the WE ALL ARE DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE but most of us like to pretend to be like everyone else.

    1. And that’s exactly it Sadje, people by themselves are themselves differences an’ warts an all – but the moment those same individuals become people or society people, they fear being themselves anymore and then become herd 🙂
