K9 Interviews 26 – Coco Baby

K9 Interviews

K9 Questionnaire

A] Personal Details

1] Your Name?

“Coco, Preci, Coco Baby.”

2] Your 2 Leggeds Names?

“Mama and Daddy.”

3] What type of K9 are you? [Breed]

“Part Boxer, Lab and Whippet to name a few!”

4] How Old Are You?

“Almost 7.”

5] Do you run your household?

6] Do you live inside or outside the house?

“Uh, inside.”

7] Where about in the world do you live?

“Indianapolis, Indiana.”

“When we had a boat, I used to get to go to the lake with my humans. I was Lake Dawg. I didn’t like going in the water past where I could touch though. I know, my Labrador ancestors probably are shaking their heads at my humiliation. I may have even had to wear a lifejacket. Maybe.”

“Puppy Me!”

B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring

8] How often do you take your 2 leggeds for a walk?

“Once a day unless the weather is crappy and then we wait. And wait. And wait.”

9] Do you vary the walks or trek the same route every day?

“Mostly the same but when the weather gets nice we go to the park!”

10] Do your 2 leggeds allow you to talk to other K9’s on your walks or do they huff and puff behind you and urge you to hurry along?

“Depends on who is doing the walking. I am not a social butterfly, however, and I get a bit defensive when I see dogs bigger than I. I have what my Mom and Dad call Napoleon Syndrome. I get along ok with small dogs, though.”

11] Are you allowed to do ‘stuff’ on your walks freely?

“Mom takes me off the leash at the park and I’m very well-behaved. I don’t get too far in front of her and normally I even wait on her to catch up. Off leash at the park is my fave. If I tried to roll in poo, I don’t think Mom would go for that, however…”

12] Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?

“Mom filmed me doing a number 2 in the snow and put it out for the world on Twitter.”

13] Do your 2 leggeds expect you to fetch the ball/toy every time during soft/hard play?

“I don’t do the “fetch.” I like to play tug.”

* Do you have favourite toys and if so what are they?

“I have a pink piggy I like. I also love stuffed hedgehogs, but I de-stuff them as soon as possible…”

14] Are you loved every day?

“All day, every day.”

Made to feel special?

“Yep. I’m kind of a big deal around here.”

15] Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them?

“I went with them once. Mostly I get to stay with my grandparents when they go on vacation. I love the grandparents!”

C] Eating/Food/Treats

“In the summer, Mama takes me and the little’s to Dairy Queen where I get my very own Pup Cup.”

17] Are you given treats? Too few or just right? What are your favourites?

“I get treats several times a week and I get safe to eat bones. (One time, I took 25 (yes, 25) chicken wing bones out of the trash and ate them all. I thought Mom was going to stroke out, but guess what, my stomach acid took care of all 25 wings bones!! Nothing on the x-ray five days later!! Pretty impressive, huh? Except now all the chicken wing bones go in the garage, so I don’t have a chance to eat them anymore. Boohoo.”

18] Are you fed a nutritional diet?

“Yep! Salmon Taste of the Wild. Mom says I eat better than the family.”

19] Is your food moist or dry or both or even the raw meat diet?

20] Do you enjoy it or is it boring?

“Pretty boring if you ask me. I like it when the little humans sneak me food at the table. Shhhhhh.”

21] Do you eat it every day, or sometimes refuse to?

“I eat it!”

22] Are you allowed to sample your 2 leggeds food?

“Yep! I love Cheezits!”

23] Do you eat your food when you are expected to, or when you wish to?

“When I wish!”

D] Your Personal K9 Stuff

“I love sun cuddles with the littlest biped.”

24] Do you have a favourite piece of 2 legged clothing and if so, do they know?

“I don’t do the clothing – I prefer to be au natural.”

26] Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?

“I bark at literally everything outside the window like I am going to kill it making Mom and Dad think we are under attack every time I bark. It can be a bit nerve racking to them, but I am saving them!”

27] Do you have a bed?

“A bed, two couches, and am even allowed on two of the three human beds. Like I said, I’m kind of a big deal.”

28] If so, do you sleep in your bed, or their bed, or the couch or all three and more?

“I usually sleep on the couch.”

29] How much alone time or ‘just you’ time do you have?

“Unfortunately all my humans have school and work five out of every seven days, so I am super excited when they come home.”

30] Do your 2 leggeds make you dress up?

“They have tried and failed.”

* For which holiday or festivity is this applicable?

* Pose for pictures?

“Not on purpose.”

“This is about as much dress up as you will get from me. … Aloha!”

31] Do you actually enjoy it or simply tolerate it because it appears to please them?

“I barely tolerate.”

32] Do you have a friendly vet?

“Yes, but when I realize that is where the human has taken me, I immediately try to leave.”

33] What would be your perfect day?

“Daddy gives me a special “breakky” on Sundays (usually something yummy and gooey with gravy out of a can-Mom hates it because she has to clean up the results on our walk later.), then an off-leash romp through our park and trails, home for a nap on the couch, play time in the front yard with the little bipeds, maybe a special trip to Dairy Queen for a pup cup, cuddle time on the couch at night and then sleep.”

In spite of everything … the manipulations and the training you must subject them to – are they happy that you are there to mentor for them?

“Of course.”

Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …

“My humans adopted me from a litter of my brothers and sisters at a rescue. My Mom was there too, although they said I looked nothing like her. A few days after my humans brought me home, they noticed I wasn’t eating and I was very sleepy.

They took me to the vet who said I had intestinal parasites. They put me on meds for those but after a day, I was getting worse. Mom took me to another vet who tested me for something called Parvo which can kill puppies if not treated. Turns out, that is what I had. I had to stay with the cats (they are immune to it) in the kennel at the vet while hooked up to medicine and IVs for three days!! But guess what, it worked and I’m still here! My Mama often gets sad though thinking of my brothers and sisters because the rescue probably didn’t have the money or resources to treat the disease and if it isn’t treated, well, the puppies usually don’t make it. It’s pretty fatal. But I’m happy my humans picked me because we make a great family.”

“This is where I spend the majority of my time. “
