A Life Up In Shmoke!
I started smoking when l was sixteen, so that is now nearly 40 years of this dreadful habit, minus about two – two and a half years of times that l gave up. But l started again.
When l was 16 l began with the pipe, which lasted until l was 23 when l took up smoking cigars, which in itself lasted till l was 26 when l started smoking customs and then l stopped these when l was 33 and since then l have smoked roll-ups. In 2013 – 2015 l was desperate to cut down, as l was consuming 50g tobacco every two days, never mind what my Doc had told me.
Apart from a couple of times l quit – once for six months between the ages of 23 and 26, and another time from between 2015 – 2017, l have smoked all the way through my mid teens to now.
Suze is a non-smoker and l appreciate that and she hates me smoking. I don’t smoke in the house, it’s always outside and l don’t smoke when l am outside as out socially, mostly it’s in the gardens of the house.
Now by all means criticise as much as you want, makes no difference you will not be the bigger critique to my habit as l am. I do not deny l use it as a crutch, but for many years l enjoyed it. Do l enjoy it now? No. But l am addicted to the habit.
Now, it’s killing me, l above all people shouldn’t be smoking, as l have scarred lungs, my lungs in the words of one Doctor was ‘Your lungs are buggered and you are inches away from full blown COPD and worse. That statement was made to me in March 2013, and l started to STOP smoking which was achieved in October 2015 and lasted till August in 2017!
I had some seriously bad stress arrive on my doorstep and l fell back on my crutch. Simple as.
However, l do wish to give up. I can’t do cold turkey, l am too weak minded. I tried chewing cinnamon and liquorice sticks and all they do is make you look like some kind of plug chewer and you aways smell of those things. I tried NRT with the NHS here in the UK [Nicotine Replacement Therapy] and l went through patches, gum, nasal sprays and E-Cigs and the such like. I eventually gave up via the use of Vaping.
So now l am going to take that path again. Currently l smoke 50g tobacco every 6 days. i am just pondering on whether l should be going via the E-Cig system which is apparently better than a few years ago or the Vaping? Do any of you have any experience with either of these as in recently? If so, what would you recommend?
I don’t like the nicotine, that l do know, l just like the repetitive hand to mouth movement of smoking and there is a satisfaction of inhaling. I did try briefly alternative organic mixtures, but that just felt like l was inhaling crunchy dust, so l also gave that up.
So any advice?
