Teddy & Molly
Our names are Teddy and Molly. Teddy is also known as Ted, Tedsy and Teds, and Molly is often known as Mol, Mols and Mollsy. We don’t know why.
What do you call your two-leggeds?
We have three two-leggeds. Mam (aka Top Dog) and Dad live with us. Clare lives down the road but we see her most days and we enjoy visiting and meeting our furry and feathered friends who live with her. The guinea pigs make delicious chocolate drops which come from their bottoms! For some reason, the two-legged don’t like us eating them.
What k9 breed are you?
We are very loud and proud Jack Russells!
How old are you?
We are nine years old although we keep being told we don’t act it.
Molly: I still keep being mistaken for a puppy, though Ted has a few grey hairs now.
Do you live inside or outside and more importantly – do you run your household?
Inside of course!
Teddy: I try to run the household but Top Dog (Mam) keeps getting in the way so I do my job as watchdog instead. I’m head watchdog. Molly is my apprentice.
Whereabouts in the world do you live?
How often do you take your two-legged for a walk?
We try to motivate them to take us out very day.
Do you do lots of adventuring when out and about?
We would love to but Top Dog has too many rules, don’t chase cats, birds, or other dogs. Don’t bark for no reason. Blah, blah, blah… She takes all the fun out of it!
Do your two-legged allow you to talk to other k9s on your walks or do they huff and puff behind you and urge you to hurry along?
Teddy: I’m a little nervous of other dogs unless I know them.
Are you allowed to do ‘stuff’ on your walks freely? Do you walk off or on lead?
Molly: We can sniff but we’re not allowed to chase anything or shout at other dogs. And we’re on lead unfortunately so can’t even run off and get stuck in fox holes!
Have your 2-leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so, how?
By pulling on our leads and then say we’re doing the pulling!
Do your 2-leggeds expect you to fetch the ball/toy every time?
No, we don’t have balls.
Do you have favourite toys and if so, what are they?
We don’t have toys anymore because the two-leggeds think we fight over them, there was one notorious Christmas apparently… We play Chase with each other instead.
Are you a very much-loved K9?
Of course, we’re much loved!
Do your 2-leggeds take you on holidays with them?
We get left with a relative if two-leggeds go off somewhere. Dad keeps promising something about a cottage in Ireland but it’s not happened yet…
Are you given treats? What are your favourites?
Molly: Marrowbone when we visit Clare.
Teddy: Porridge (leftovers from two-legged breakfasts) is my favourite, though I’ve been accused for gulping not tasting! We have a little treat every day, if our humans look like they’ve forgotten we will politely remind them. After our watchdog duties, it’s the least they can do!
Are you fed a nutritional diet and is your food moist or dry or both?
Teddy: We have dry food, Molly is very fussy and gets bored with her food easily so our food gets changed regularly.
Are you allowed to sample your two-leggeds’ food?
Teddy: They give us a little sample after they’ve eaten but usually we have to scavenge under the table. I try to taste their tea if they leave a cup down and don’t see me.
Your Personal K9 Stuff
Do you have a favourite piece of two-legged clothing and if so, do they know?
Molly: I don’t know about clothes but I love cushions, such a satisfying hole can be made.
Teddy: Oh, the magic blanket! It’s the cosiest, warmest blanket ever. We love snuggling up in it. I find it very calming.
Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the two-leggeds?
Molly: It can be fun trying to get Ted into an argument. The humans hate it when they hear us arguing with each other! Very amusing.
Teddy: Molly acts up, I don’t. Quite frankly, I’m too busy on watchdog duty to be larking about. No wonder I have more grey hairs.
Do you have a bed or a favourite sleeping place?
We sleep on the settee, we should be on a human bed but it’s the next best thing we suppose.
Are you always with your two-leggeds or do you sometimes need ‘time out’?
Teddy: I like being with the humans but when it gets to 8pm, that’s my time to go to bed.
Molly: Ted gets narky when he gets tired.
Do your two-leggeds make you dress up?
Teddy: In autumn and winter, we wear our dog coats to bed and when out walking. I have a lovely warm, soft pastel grey and checked coat. Molly still has her old tartan coat for bed. Clare nicknames our bed coats ‘dog pyjamas’ but we have thin fur so it’s for warmth not fashion.
Molly: My tartan coat is not old! And I have a separate red waterproof coat for walks. Very stylish.
Are you photogenic or make them run after you to capture you on film?
Photogenic of course!
Do you have a friendly vet?
Molly: Don’t talk to me about vets! Grr…
Teddy: I don’t mind our vet, she always gives me a lot of attention.
Molly: Attention seeker!
What would be your pawfect day?
A pawfect day would be morning porridge, a lovely walk, a drive to Clare’s, a marrowbone, a quick tidy up of pig chocolate drops (yum), dinner, chicken treat time (don’t tell Clare’s hens) and lots of attention and patting during the day.
My special thanks to Molly, Teddy and Clare for taking the time out to pawticipate in my first for a long time K9 Interview and tell us about some of their day to day life in Lancashire [Dad tells me that is a lovely part of the world and l would enjoy it , mm, methinks is the way of telling me there is a holiday coming up?]
“Methinks?? Good Dawg, what am l like, first l am digressing and now l AM using Dad’s language, yes l need a holiday!”
Oh ho ho, Guinea pigs, mm, yes l am all too familiar with the reactions of our 2 leggeds, here they tell me off for smelling, that’s all l am doing honest, anything that comes from something else’s bottom from horses to foxes to cats and to other dogs! And so what l say if l have a little nibble, well okay not another K9’s as that is just wrong, but everything else is fair game!
At times l play Mummy off against Dad, not in a nasty way, but it was a 2 legged 2 year old that taught me those sneaky tricks, if Mummy says no, there is always Dad and vice versa!
Thank you both again Molly and Teddy for coming along to tell us about everything and please do tell Clare, my appologies for my delay in getting this done.
Hope you enjoyed reading … Tootle Pip from Doodlepip!
If you are interested in pawticipaing please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and l will email you back with the questionnaire.
I post your finished interview here and in Facebook
All of my interviews are now altogether, so K9’s, Felines, and other Petz. Yes you read that right, Dad and l will be creating a questionnaire that is appropriate for all future animal interviews. [well that’s the plan, it’s just taking slightly longer than intended].
