Was it only yesterday?

Was it only yesterday?

Our song played on the radio today,
And it swept me up in an emotional tidal wave,
Bringing back sweet loving memories of our yesterdays,
When we were young, foolish and on the misbehave,

And whilst that music played silently within my head,
I travelled back to that very first look,
We shared that time way back, way back then,
When my legs turned to jelly as the ground shook,

You shared my surprise, and smiled at my bumbling ways
Tripping over my feet, and slowly blossoming red,
Although perhaps not fully realizing that l was in a daze,
An’ that my breath had left my body like l’d been struck dead,

For I knew at that precise moment that l had fallen,
Twas unlike any tumble l had taken in the past,
And that my beating heart had truly been stolen,
But was yours alongside my soul to do as was asked,

And l remember the times we shared way back then,
When our love was passionate and we embraced the night,
For first true loves, maybe young but are never quite forgotten,
And you just know that they are so, so right,

Yet now as the melody of my memory fades from my head,
Disappearing into the warm, gentle breeze of today,
I still recall those moments of loving that we shared,
And think back, was it only yesterday?

  1. Oh, Guy! What a sweet poem. I love it! It reminds me of when my hubby and I were young and first trying to get over our nerves and talk to one another. I don’t think I have ever seen anything like this from you!

I have a favor to ask. Will you please post one of your favorite posts here?
I want to get this started and I don’t think anyone wants to be the first!
