1] Blog Name
“(Don’t fret, I don’t post daily. It was meant to have a name related to some major news publications (“Daily”). And the Flabbergast part is pretty self-explanatory – I blog about things that flabbergast me, and might do the same to you.”
2] What is your blog’s specific genre?
“My blog is constantly evolving. It started as a place for me to discuss news related thoughts with other bloggers. But soon that wasn’t enough, and I introduced some creative writing to my blog. Moreover, I also host a monthly HashtagWeek, during which I put my own spin on #MondayMotivation, #TuesdayThoughts, #WednesdayWisdom, #ThrowbackThursday and #FridayFeeling”
3] How old is your Blog?
“Just over a year.”
4] Why did you feel the need to start an actual blog?
“My creativity was shot. I was working a 9-5, which took a mental toll on me. It involved no creative input. Actually, I felt like it hindered it. I found myself unable to string a line, or two (unrelated to work) of anything spontaneously. I needed to do something before it was too late. I needed an outlet for my thoughts.”
5] What age were you when you first started to write?
“I marvel at bloggers, who remember writing a poem, or a story when they were less than 10 years old. Personally, I don’t remember. What I do know is that I started off as reader. Only after a few years of solid reading I started scribbling things. I probably was around 13 -15 when I started producing something I remotely enjoyed.”
6] Was it a natural process or did something or someone inspire you to put your first thoughts to paper?
“As I don’t remember my “first”, I don’t remember any inspiration. It probably was something that I read, though.”
7] Would you say that your creativity flows easily or do you need to be motivated by an event or a moment in your life to trigger it?
“Now that I have started blogging, I see it flowing a bit easier. However, there are certain things that cause it to pour out.”
8] How frequent or prolific are you with your writing and blogging?
“People say it’s an excuse, but I really don’t have much time. Between work, eating and sleeping, I do not have a lot of time to just sit idly and write down my thoughts. My blog does motivate me, though. My goal is to post something twice a week (NROP = news related opinion piece, and CW = creative writing), but that varies recently, as my time feels even more limited.”
9] Is it just WordPress that your writing is displayed or other platforms as well?
“Currently, it is just WP, but I do have some ideas for more. Some day…”
10] Do you use social media to advertise and market your blog? If so which ones and how effective is it/are they?
“I created a Twiiter and Facebook account to promote my blog, but it is difficult to keep it up (Building connections with people take time. I don’t want to just be a sales person.)”
11] Writers block we all get it at one point or another – if you do suffer from it, how do you tackle the problem?
“The easiest thing is to walk away. Give yourself a break. Sleep on it. Watch a silly, mind-numbing movie. That way your brain does not have to work. It gets a moment to relax. Ideally, I would go on a bike ride, or just on a nature walk.”
12] Which is your preferred writing/creative style?
“Persuasive and descriptive, which explains the main 2 segments of my blog.”
13] What is the best thing about blogging in your eyes?
“The feedback. Conveniently, that is one thing (“the best thing”), which can be explained in a couple of different ways. First of all, by feedback, I mean readers telling me what they think of my creative pieces. They also give me feedback on my NROP, which allows for further discussion and brainstorming. That’s how ideas are born. Ideas for how to make the world a better place. As well as they can inspire new posts.”
14] What prompts you to write about a topic on the day that you post?
“I’m spontaneous, meaning whatever I feel on that day, I write about. I scour news sites to see what catches my eye (i.e. makes my blood boil). As for my CW pieces, it depends what the prompt inspires.”
15] What advice would you award new bloggers to help and encourage them promote their blog and engage with their audience?
“Reach out to others. If you just wanted to write (and get no feedback), you could just use your paper diary. If you come to blog, you must be longing for some kind of feedback. The best way to motivate people to give you just that is to provide them with same. So go out there and discover some new bloggers.”
16] Do you have an overall blogging strategy or simply write because you enjoy writing?
“Blogging strategy? Not really. I want my blogging experience to be somewhat fun. Not MORE work. Not until I get to quit “regular” work, at least.”
17] Do you feel it is important to have an engaging audience to the content that you write?
“For SURE! Debating is something I really enjoy, which is why I really like it when I get engaging comments. And getting feedback on my creativity is also very important. I might think I wrote something good, but it is all just in my head until someone else says they enjoyed it.”
18] If no one ever commented on your blog would this concern you, and if so how would you rectify the situation?
“Yes. I had no comments in the beginning of my blogging life and it didn’t feel good. Even though I started blogging to unlock my creativity (selfish reason), I did want to connect with others. I went out and looked for other bloggers and built connections.”
19] How long from start to finish would/can your content take you to complete?
“It really depends… From a few minutes (short CW pieces) to over an hour (research, breaks, etc.).”
20] Which do you think are your best 3 posts to date? Please link below so that our readers can see your style and take a step into your world.
“It’s very hard for me to pick my “best posts”, because I write all of them with so much conviction. However, I will pick one from each of my categories, so as to give you a glimpse into my writing style.”
21] Finally, what advice would you offer new writers to the blogging community?
“You’ve probably read it all before, but I’ll say it anyway.
a) Do what feels right to YOU (content, length, frequency of posts, etc).
b) Take negative feedback with a grain of salt. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen to it, but it means that you shouldn’t lose sleep over it. ( I wrote a post that explains that. https://dailyflabbergast.wordpress.com/2018/01/14/how-to-deal-with-harsh-words/ )
c) Engage. Go out, meet other bloggers, find inspiration, give feedback, etc.”
First and foremost my thanks to Floatinggold aka Goldie of the Daily Flabbergast for taking the time to participate in the Truly Inspired 2 series and sharingwith us views, thoughts and aspirations as to why the blog was born.
Sure we have read it before perhaps, but that is afterall where many glean both motivation and inspiration to continue with what they’re doing – which is writing and creating so ‘Goldies’ advice is totally relevant – Do what feel right for you, don’t take on board any kind of negativity as a particular insult to you or even your style and that is NOT saying don’t listen and absorb but don’t become stressed with it and engage and connect with other blogs and their bloggers for their feedback and inspiration.
If you are not yet familiar with the Daily Flabbergast and the posts within equally as much as the writings of Goldie then once you have hit the bottom here, hit those magical links and pop along for a visit.
So tell me, tell us. What inspired you to start your blog, was it like Goldie above who just needed an outlet to stop the insanity of the 9-5 grind biting in on a daily basis, or was it something else?
