A] Personal Details
“Jason, aka OJ & Othello (my name when in rescue)”
Your 2 Leggeds Names?
“The Assistant, Angie.”
Are you a specific feline breed or just your ordinary Moggie?
“I am a proud b&w Mog. Some say a Tuxie.”
How old Are You?
“About 3 years.”
Do you run your household? If yes ….. how?
“Mew! I am not interested in all that power game stuff. As long as I have what I need – food on demand, plenty of Dreamies & a place to sleep I’m happy. Having said that Milo, an older cat, likes to try & boss me & I don’t put up with that.”
Do you live in the house, or outside or ‘Meh’ “I live where l want!”
“I obviously live indoors but I am outside a lot too. I am a free spirit.”
Where abouts in the world do you live?
“The Yorkshire Dales, UK”
B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring
Are you an outdoorsy type of Kat, or exclusively indoor comfortable?
“I am more out than in. The Assistant sometimes says I use the house like a hotel.”
What type of exercise to take part in?
“I do play the usual pussy cat games with toys sometimes. There’s a great @Clasicats banana I like & there are feathery things on sticks – the Assistant is very wary of my sharp claws so tends to keep her distance. My first love is hunting. Mice, voles, birds, rabbits are all good. I currently wear a collar with a bell but have successfully lost more than 6 of them before now.”
When out and about are you an intrepid explorer and love to go walkabout or do you prefer to stay within your home territory?
“I am indeed intrepid. I go all over. I have been seen on the other side of the big road through the village. I go on to the railway line at the back of our house, walk down to the bridges & cross there & climb down the banking. I love walkabout & know all the gardens around. I especially love popping out when the Assistant & the Dog Monster are passing & I walk round with them.”
Do your 2 leggeds play with you?
“She does but I get bored fairly quickly. She keeps her hands away from me as I am very scratchy.”
Do you do any ‘typical’ Katty things that you enjoy, but maybe your 2 leggeds don’t?
“She doesn’t like me playing with live creatures outside the window. She also dislikes my leaving parts of said creatures on the patio. I like winding up Milo, the other cat who lives with us & the Assistant can get worked up about that too.”
Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?
“I don’t take a lot of notice to be honest. Sometimes she kisses me & I find that a bit embarrassing actually.
Do your 2 leggeds allow you to bring home any goodies from the outside that maybe you have hunted?
“She doesn’t let me bring anything indoors. The first day I went outside I brought her a bird inside & she was extremely ungrateful”
Do you have favourite toys and if so what are they?
“Things on long sticks & the @clasicats banana.”
Are you allow to freely scratch inside the house?
“I don’t think “allowed” but I do scratch the side of the sofa & an armchair the Assistant really likes. There’s a cat tree with a scratching post I occasionally use.”
Do your 2 leggeds take you away on holidays with them or do you have to stay with friends or within a ‘Cattery?’
“She once put me in a Kat prison for 3 nights. Apparently, she cried after she left me. She says she will never do it again. She hasn’t been away overnight since then.”
Are you given treats? Too few or, just right? What are your favourites?
“Always lots of Dreamies on tap. I also like some Kat sticks & have one every day”
Are you fed a nutritional diet? What type of diet is it?
“I like plain, ordinary Kat food actually & plenty of biscuits. She buys good quality biscuits she says.”
Do you enjoy it or is it boring?
“It’s just food to fuel my activities. If I haven’t had a mouse to eat I will wolf down Kat food.”
Do you eat it every day, or sometimes refuse to?
“Some days I eat more than others, depending on the hunting situation”
D] Your Personal Feline Katz Stuff
Are you a vocal Kat or quiet and unamused?
“I am very vocal on my return & then if I want to go out again. The Assistant says my little mew is “penetrating”. I can wake her from a deep sleep by mewing from outside under her window. I wake her early most days by mewing to go out when it gets light, currently 4.30-5am.”
Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?
“No, not really. As I said I’m not a game player. I do my own thing. She says I’m a little anarchist really.”
Do you have a bed of your own or simply share everyone’s?
“I have a couple that only I choose to use although Milo does go in them occasionally. I use all the available sleeping spots including the big bed, the sofa & the Dog Monster’s special bed.”
Are you an early riser, or a late napper? Are you in early of an evening or a dirty stop-out?
“I am certainly a dirty stop out & have been called that lots of times when I stay out all night. I am also an early riser. If I choose to sleep indoors at night I come in late.”
How much alone time or ‘just you’ time do you have?
“Just what I want. Sometimes she doesn’t know I’m in during the day as I have just gone to bed quietly.”
Are you into the whole affection thing at all, or is it on your terms only?
“I don’t feel the need for great shows of affection. I don’t often sit on a lap but I do like my head scratched & to be greeted when I ask for it.”
Do you like being hugged, belly tickled and so on?
“Ooh, not hugs, no. Belly tickles soon turn to carnage so I don’t tend to get many of those.”
Do your 2 leggeds make you dress up?
Do you actually enjoy it or simply tolerate it because it appears to please them?
“I would not tolerate anything of that sort.”
Do you tolerate photos or do you like posing for them?
“I don’t actually mind being photographed.”
Do you have a friendly vet?
“Yes, they all liked me at the vet when I had to stay in after I ‘inhaled’ a piece of gravel.”
Do your 2 leggeds talk to you in meow and does it really make any sense?
“Not really, she may miaow back to me but that’s all.”
Do you share the household with other companions, perhaps a K9 or ‘’other’’ species? If so what are the others, or indeed the K9’s name?
“There’s the Dog Monster – I named him that. I try to be friends with him but he’s stand offish. Milo came about 7 months ago after my best mate Thomas unavoidably left us.”
Do you get on well with the others, or simply tolerate their presence?
“Me & the Dog Monster co-exist. I am not too keen on Milo but can tolerate him.”
Do your 2 leggeds insist on bathing you or do you simply say NO?
What would be your purrfect day?
“She was inspired to adopt me after @KeighleyCatCare advertised me on social media. They said they thought having a wonky eye was causing people to overlook me. I was born with one eye smaller than the other. The assistant didn’t think that was an issue & was more concerned about the Dog Monster’s reaction. My devil-may-care approach worked well with him & it was all good after 24 hours.”
“Another thing is that there is Anna-next-door & I go in her garden a lot. I also go inside her house & sometimes she finds me upstairs when she didn’t know I had come in. She named me ‘Trouble’ when I first came here. If it’s raining hard & the Assistant is out I go to her window & Anna will come & let me in to my house, which is kind of her.”
“I do have a blog. It’s othelloj.blogspot.com & I have just pawed an update for June.”
“I started it because my lovely rescue carers asked me to keep in touch. I was with them for 10 months & they all loved me. I was found with a lot of other cats & kittens when I was approx. 10 weeks old & they took me & my sibling in. Sadly, my sibling died.”
“I am a very special Kat.”
My special thanks to Othello for taking the time out to allow this interview to be held and allowing us a small window into his daily life with the assistant Angie, The Dog Monster and Milo
