The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most spectacular places on the planet — here’s what it looks like as it dies off — Time Traveller Wiki

Shutterstock/Edward Haylan The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most biodiverse places in the entire world, worth billions of dollars. But it’s in real danger of being killed off as greenhouse gas emissions warm the water and make it more acidic, which causes coral bleaching and can kill it. There’s a real chance the…

Disturbing news indeed ..

…….. But is this the answer?

  1. I had read about the bleaching. I didn’t know they had a possible aid to help. Let’s hope it *does* help. The reef is dying not because of natural causes, but purly human destruction. We desperately need to try to reverse some of the damage we’ve already caused and are still causing.

    1. Yes, spot on, l also hope there is an aid to fix it. I first really started to see the problem about five years ago whilst reading a study on it.

The implications of it’s loss would be catastophic on so many levels.

  2. I’ve seen solutions like this before, like solar reflectors to redirect the sun’s rays out of the atmosphere and back into the solar system. The downside to these solutions is that they actually might work! I wonder if a technological fix like this would make people think that their consumption is okay, and rather than learning from our mistakes and trying to fix them, people might continue down this path until the damage starts affecting other things more and more, like forests or wildlife, or even humans.

    1. Morning Jess,

Sadly what you say is true. However l would rather see a fix in place and the right management of the repair. We need to educate our society’s more, we need to raise more awareness and be sterner and stricter in the regulating of it.

Clingfilming can ONLY ever be a temporary fix. But our biggest problem is always going to be the people. Long term solutions need to be found so as to ensure restoration is a faster process.

Twenty years ago l was preaching to those who would listen about all sorts of issues, back then l was poo poohed, and now many of those issues are fast becoming a reality, and slowly people are becoming more aware.

Slowly isn’t brilliant or the answer, but it’s a start.

      Thanks for commenting 🙂
