A] Personal Details
1] Your Names?
“My name is Rex.”
2] Your 2 Leggeds Names?
“She’s called Humum.”
3] What K9 Breed are you?
“I’m a Border Collie.”
4] How Old Are You?
“We’re not sure but we think I’m going to be three in August.”
5] Do you run your household?
“I’d say it’s a happy partnership!”
6] Do you live inside or outside the house?
“Most definitely inside!”
7] Where about in the world do you live?
South East London
B] Exercise/Play Time/Adventuring
8] How often do you take your 2 leggeds for a walk?
“Humum likes to see how much l actually walk when we walk.”
“Two or three times a day. I have a lovely dog walker when Humum is at work. She takes me out for a couple of hours every day. Humum gets a bit jealous as she wants to have that time with me. So we go out on our own in the evenings and then BIG walks and runs at the weekend!”
9] Do you vary the walks or trek the same route every day?
“At weekends Humum takes me, my bessie mate Henry the Spaniel and his Human all over the place – country walks and the beach. I get to run and run and then have some of her lunch.”
“In the week my dog walker goes to two or three different parks. Even when they’re the same there’s always something new to sniff and a new pal to meet.”
10] Do your 2 leggeds allow you to talk to other K9’s on your walks or do they huff and puff behind you and urge you to hurry along?
“She’s very chilled. It’s my time so she generally lets me do my own thing. Apart from when I chase people with footballs. Then I have to go back on my lead BOL!”
11] Are you allowed to do ‘stuff’ on your walks freely?
“Absolutely! I sniff, explore and sometimes like to have a little dig – like when I was at the beach this year!”
12] Have your 2 leggeds ever embarrassed you? If so how?
“Well… there was this one time I rolled in fox poo and she tried to clean it off and failed. We didn’t have a car then so had to get on the bus home. She tried to make out that it was the baby on the bus that had a smelly accident. That didn’t work so in shame she made us get off the bus and walk a very, very long way home! I was quite proud of my smell.”
13] Do your 2 leggeds expect you to fetch the ball/toy every time during soft/hard play?
“I expect her to throw and kick the ball at every opportunity. That’s her job.”
*Do you have favourite toys and if so what are they?
“I loves them all! Santa Toy and Reindeer are my first choices but have been known to get lots out at once! It’s tiring playing with so many toys!”
14] Are you loved every day?
“Absolutely! We have cuddles in the morning after breakfast, cuddles when she gets home and after dinner and before bed. I will also happily be tickled on my belly and have my legs and shoulders massaged and stroked at any time of the day!”
“We also play a silly game where she chases me up and down the house to nick my ball. I love sliding to a stop in front of her so she can’t get it.”
15] Does your 2 legged take you away on holidays with them?
“Absolutely. She didn’t get me to leave me at home!!”
16] Do you get to pick where you go if they do?
“Hey – Border Collies are the most intelligent dogs but even I’m not that clever to have worked out how to look at a world map and put my paw down to indicate a preference!”
17] Are you given treats? Too few or just right? What are your favourites?
“I loves my Kongs. Humum fills them with ham or sausage and pate or cream cheese and puts them in the freezer.”
“Sometimes I get to lick the yogurt pot and if we’re out on a hot day I’ll get an ice cream or ice lolly!”
18] Are you fed a nutritional diet?
19] Is your food moist or dry or both or even the raw meat diet?
“Humum makes a lot of my own food herself. Mince, pasta and vegetables is a staple diet and I loves her home made chicken broth. I also have wet food like ForthGlade.”
20] Do you enjoy it or is it boring?
“It’s food. It’s never boring.”
21] Do you eat it every day, or sometimes refuse to?
“Does any dog ever refuse food?!”
22] Are you allowed to sample your 2 leggeds food?
“Err yes! I said this was a partnership! Best times are pub lunches where she cuts up some of her food and puts into a little bowl for me, once it’s cooled down I get to eat it – brilliant when it’s a Sunday Roast!”
“I’ve learned to be patient. This is me and my friend Henry waiting for some cheeeeeeese!!”
23] Do you eat your food when you are expected to, or when you wish to?
“Well… unless she’s forgotten to move a plate and I help myself, generally when I’m expected to.”
D] Your Personal K9 Stuff
24] Do you have a favourite piece of 2 legged clothing and if so, do they know?
“I used to love her shoes. So much so I ate them. I don’t do that anymore as she got annoyed or upset.”
25] Go on be a Devil – tell us what it is ….?
“Nope – there’s no clothing.”
26] Do you deliberately play up at times, just to annoy or worry the 2 leggeds?
“I have been known to disappear. But now I have a GPS tracking system so she can see where I am on an app on her phone. I never went far, just having a sniff and an explore. I’d be more worried if I lost her!”
“I also feel it’s my duty to guard the house from flies, cats, squirrels and foxes, so I bark and chase them all. Humum says she can’t see what I’m barking at but that’s because I’ve scared them away!”
27] Do you have a bed?
“A bed, her bed, the sofa and the chair bed.”
28] If so, do you sleep in your bed, or their bed, or the couch or all three and more?
“Currently the chair bed is my fave. I share it with my cuddly pals.”
29] How much alone time or ‘just you’ time do you have?
“She’s very good and knows when I need ‘me’ time. She’ll come and check on me if she hasn’t heard me for a while, but she knows I will come and find her when I want attention.”
30] Do your 2 leggeds make you dress up?
*For which holiday or festivity is this applicable?
“I always have a bandana on – I have lots of them. I wore this one for the Royal Wedding!”
“But she’d never get me in fancy dress. Ever!”
*Pose for pictures?
“She constantly tries to get me to pose but I don’t really like it as you can see by this photo! I don’t like her phone. She should put it away and just give me personal attention.”
31] Do you actually enjoy it or simply tolerate it because it appears to please them/
“I don’t tolerate it really – she bribes me with food or manages to do it quickly before I have chance to move.”
32] Do you have a friendly vet?
“Yes, they’re lovely and I’m always a very good dog.”
33] What would be your perfect day?
“I’m not a morning dog, so lie ins with Humum, brekkie, a chase at nothing in particular around the garden followed by a long walk / run in the countryside where it’s quiet and there are no cars, her Sunday lunch and back for sleepy time.”
In spite of everything … the manipulations and the training you must subject them to – are they happy that you are there to mentor for them?
“Humum, didn’t know me as a puppy, however this was when l was littler than l am now.”
“My Humum rescued me from a dog’s home when I was one. But she often says that I rescued her. So yes, I think she is more than happy.”
Finally, in your own words tell us something about both you and your 2 leggeds that the questions haven’t touched on or asked about – something unique …
“I was a stray in Ireland. I was saved by the Dog’s Trust and then came over (by boat I think) to England and ended up in Basildon. After all that trauma she came in and chose me! Out of all the dogs she chose me! And I never thought I’d have my own best friend and feel so loved.”
My special thanks to Rex and his Humum for pawticipating in our K9 questionnaire – and sharing home life and adventures with us all here.
Ah Rex, your Humum has it easy when it comes to your food, l am one of those K9’s that doesn’t make it easy for my Mummy or Dad and like to give them the worries especially when l refuse food, or make them run around like headless whatevers trying to figure out what l want? Got to be done to keep them on their toes.
But you are right, we all rescue each other and that is what makes us family! I BOL’d hard reading the answer to ‘if you pick holidays, very witty!”
Once again, my thanks to you all for taking the time to complete the questionnaire and spill the beans on home life in London.
Way to go Rex, Power to the Bark!
Hope you enjoyed reading … Tootle Pip from Doodlepip!
“If you are interested in pawticipaing please email me at email@example.com and l will email you back with the questionnaire.”
You may have noticed that l am currently in the lead of Dad’s Truly Inspired series – woot woof woof woot! Now l know that many of you must have K9’s equally as much as Feline Katz – isn’t it time you let them have their say and take our number to 36!
Looking pawards to hearing from many, many more!
